Job Summary

The Manager of Supply Planning & Procurement leads a team responsible for procuring natural gas supplies to meet the needs of the Company’s retail and wholesale customers, optimizing margin generated from the Company’s supply asset portfolio, monitoring and communicating regulatory, contracting & compliance activity.  This role provides leadership to a staff of professional employees, through the preparation of employee developmental plans, coaching and feedback.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead & Develop Staff  

Evaluate, manage, and propose changes to adapt organizational structure, staffing requirements/resource management, and job progressions as needed to meet Company needs.  Create and maintain job descriptions, goals, and individualized developmental plans for staff considering goal of preparing staff to assume additional and higher level of responsibility, perform with a greater level of independence, and identify risks and/or opportunities related their roles.  Meet at least quarterly with staff to provide coaching and communicate staffing performance to management.

Procurement & Asset Optimization

Lead a team responsible for procuring reliable natural gas supplies to serve UGIES’s retail customer demand and seek opportunities to reduce costs by taking advantage of locational market opportunities to source and deliver supplies.  . Maximize UGIESs supply asset portfolio including firm transportation capacity, storage, peaking assets, and assets received through retail programs by engaging in wholesale cash and term transactions.  Develop strategy for acquiring new assets, through RFPs and Open seasons, to grow the Company’s retail, wholesale, and peaking business.

Forecasting & Communication

Develop and communicate budgets and forecasts related to margin generated from transactions related to all wholesale gas activity.  Communicate key metrics related to cash and forward looking capacity quantities, transactions, and current market values. 


Contracting & Compliance

Lead the Company’s efforts to negotiate various supply agreements necessary for the continuation of business.  Lead the Company’s efforts to monitor internal controls related to exposure, regulatory compliance, and credit.  Oversee the Company’s participation in state regulatory proceeding and develop strategy for reviewing, analyzing, and communicating regulatory activity that may have an impact on the Company.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and communciation skills. Ability to translate complex information into simple concepts.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and prioritize.
  • Knowledge of pipelines, gas supply tradign, and scheduling practices
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with other deaprtments and groups.
  • Knowledge of LDC tariffs and state regulatory procedures.

Education and Experience

MBA preferred. Bachelor's Degee with emphasis in science, engineering or legal fields.
