Job Summary

The Gas Systems Operations Supervisor (GSOS) Trainee learns and performs the duties of a GSOS, as described below, under the direction of qualified control room personnel.  A GSOS controls and monitors key gas UGI and UGIES facilities using the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system to meet customer delivery needs and to optimize gas supply economics.  A GSOS directs the application of internal and external resources to provide an effective response to routine and emergency activities. Must live within 1 hour of the primary & backup control center (Wyomissing, PA). Ability to work a 7-day a week, 24-hour shift rotation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) System to maintain distribution system integrity by monitoring for pressure alarms and other alarms that may indicate failure of control, instrumentation, or other equipment.  Evaluate alarms and respond as per written protocols and sound judgment.  
  • Make SCADA control adjustments as necessary to maintain system integrity and optimize supply economics.  
  • Prepare detailed, accurate, system-wide gas demand estimates and estimates of peak-shaving or other contingencies that may be required for supply/demand balancing.  Monitor and adjust as gas day progresses.
  • Manage gas confirmations and schedules during non-business hours.  
  • Maintain logs of SCADA operations and supply balancing positions with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability and willingness to fill in on vacant shifts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work a 7-day a week 24-hour shift rotation.
  • Ability to monitor and manage fatigue while working a rotating shift schedule, by applying fatigue management principles to both on-duty and off-duty habits and behaviors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and constructively with team members and outside vendors.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other MS software.
  • Good interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Must live within 1 hour of the primary and backup control center.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in the natural gas industry desirable.  Operations or dispatching experience preferred.
