Job Summary

The Gas Control Analyst SCADA learns to configure, coordinate and troubleshoot the UGI’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system (SCADA) architecture and all associated communication platforms associated with all Central Gas Control activities.  

Provide technical support to personnel internal and external to UGI and UGIES with developing, analyzing and reviewing the programming used in RTU loads at sites on the systems monitored and controlled by Central Gas Control.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Gas Control Analyst SCADA is responsible for assisting the Senior SCADA Analyst in planning, developing, implementing and maintaining UGI’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and developing and supporting all related systems.  This includes the development of all Bristol and ACCOL software programming for all remote telemetering units (RTU’s) and system control hardware.  
  • Support, direct and coordinate the installation, testing and maintenance of the equipment and software and communication platforms.
  • Coordinate and schedule with resources at UGI Proconex and Emerson’s Open Enterprise services group to assure that each SCADA server and work - station is operational and maintained and upgraded to the latest version and that security patches are installed on the required cycle.
  • Provide technical support and training to personnel internal and external to UGI and UGIES with developing, analyzing and reviewing the programming and conditional overrides used in RTU loads at each station on the system.  Provide support to Telemetry, field personnel and Pipeline Company technicians to troubleshoot measurement, communication and control hardware and software issues installations that affect the facilities Gas Control operates.
  • Responsible for supporting the Director of Gas Control and control room operations with developing implementing and maintaining documentation related to Gas Control operations, including system communication architecture, backup communication platform, the conditional overrides control tables in SCADA site documentation and alarm response protocol procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of SCADA. 
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, controls, and PLC programming.  Prefer experience with programming Emerson PLC’s.
  • Knowledge and understanding of SCADA network communication platforms including satellite and wireless.
  • Knowledge of gas measurement, regulation, instrumentation and control concepts.
  • Strong understanding of PC applications and MS-Office including Excel and Word.
  • Complex problem solving, diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to apply technical training and experience to develop practical solutions to real world problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of UGI’s gas distribution systems, pipeline transportation and exchange, area geography, area call-out procedures, emergency response procedures for both Gas Supply and Operations.
  • Ability to support Gas Control and SCADA operations after hours.

Education and Experience

  • Technical training or related experience in electronics or computer programming.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in Gas operations or Telemetry.
