Job Summary
The Director of Engineering plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities including project development, design, operational support, and regulatory compliance within the organization. The responsibilities of this position span across many types of natural gas, propane and electrical facilities including gathering, transmission, distribution, gas processing, compression, terminalling, peaking, measurement & regulation, and storage. This position is also responsible for all required regulatory compliance and safety management systems related to these facilities including procedures, records, standards, emergency management plans, integrity management plans and support all regulatory audits. The Director position manages all resource requirements for the group including internal and external staffing levels to meet the demands of the business. This includes developing internal staff to support a diverse set of assets and businesses, developing relationships, and negotiating contracts with external engineering companies and working with industry peers to ensure current and future assets utilize the latest technologies while controlling costs. It is critical for this position to be very collaborative with all internal stakeholder, such as Business Development, Operations, Procurement, Accounting, Gas Control and Legal and take their needs into consideration while providing sound technical feedback to ensure all business needs are met.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and prioritize the resources within the Engineering Department; manage the development of the supervisors and their direct reports within that group. Ensure adequate and thorough depth of knowledge throughout the group. Manage and adjust supplemental third party staffing as needed to support the team.
- Manage and prioritize the technical development and execution of large capital projects; work with various business groups, PM, and Operations as well as external organizations to ensure projects are being developed on schedule and within budget. Manage both internal and external customers to adjust execution strategies and mitigate project risks.
- Develop, update, and maintain design standards, construction standards, material specifications, operating manuals, training/operating procedures, and drawings standards so that all UGI facilities are designed, built, and operate to comply with FERC, DOT, NFPA, PHMSA and OSHA regulations.

- Analyze and present accurate information to assist stakeholders in making sound business decisions; strong service-oriented mentality that drives continual improvement and clarity of information; synthesize and distill information from many sources to extract useful, value-added insights for decision makers regarding capital projects.
- Ability to build strong relationships and develop trust across the organization with experience influencing cultural shifts; collaborative, team-focused, and service-oriented mentality.
- Strong communication skills; communicate effectively and persuasively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, MBA encouraged.
- 10 years of experience in natural gas processing, transmission, and distribution with a focus on design, compliance, and project execution.
- PE License preferred
- Certifications from regulatory agencies that govern natural gas processing, transmission, and distribution preferred (OSHA, NFPA, ASME, NACE). Project Management Professional certification preferred.
- Knowledge of CADD and hydraulic modeling required. Knowledge of SCADA and control systems including the ability to understand and write control logic in various platforms is preferred.
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; MS Project preferred.
