Manager/Director of Gas Control.

Overview:  The Director of Central Gas Control will manage UGI Utilities and UGI Energy Services Gas Control by overseeing SCADA system development and implementation and overseeing use of the SCADA system to monitor and control key facilities within the gas networks.  Develop, implement, and monitor initiatives to achieve daily and seasonal gas supply plan objectives at the maximum economic benefit possible.  Oversee management of UGI Telemetry Department in their installation and maintenance of SCADA and Metretek field equipment.   

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Overseeing, directing and coordinating the 24 x 7 x 365 operations of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System and Central Gas Control Operations.
  • Ensure distribution system integrity by maintaining and creating improvement processes for optimizing supply economics and managing SCADA alarms that may indicate failure of control, instrumentation, or other equipment.  
  • Developing and maintaining analytical tools to forecast daily gas demand with emphasis on improving sendout forecast accuracy.
  • Communicate system-wide gas demand estimates and estimates of peak-shaving or other contingencies that may be required for supply/demand balancing. 
  • Developing and executing plans and resources required to maintain and improve the SCADA system.
  • Overseeing and directing the UGI Utilities Telemetry Department in the design, planning, installation, and maintenance of SCADA field equipment and Metretek remote meter reading equipment. 
  • Developing and maintaining SCADA operating manuals and procedures to be used by GSOS’s to access, monitor and control the flow of gas in UGI’s and UGIES’s gas networks in a safe and economically efficient manner that is consistent with applicable safety regulations as well as daily and seasonal Gas Supply plans.  These manuals and procedures are to include effective training tools to meet federal Operator Qualification requirements for remotely monitoring and controlling pressure and flow control systems and for responding to distribution system alarms. 
  • Functioning as the point of contact for UGI and UGIES Engineering and Operations staff, and design groups of pipeline companies, to plan for the installation, maintenance, improvement, or expansion of gas facilities.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Understanding of UGI and UGIES gas systems and pipeline transportation and exchange.
  • Knowledge of gas measurement and regulation concepts.
  • Understanding of pipeline and UGI tariffs.
  • Understanding of UGI and UGIES operating policies and procedures
  • Extensive computer application knowledge (PC, database, client-server).
  • Understanding of WAN/LAN operation. 
  • Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations, including 49 CFR 192, PUC chapter 59 and FERC regulations. 
  • Knowledge of process measurement, instrumentation and control.
  • Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Strong interpersonal / written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Engineering or similar technical degree.
  • Experience in the natural gas industry desirable. 
  • Operations experience preferred.
