Job Summary

Responsible for the proper administration and coordination of the operations and maintenance activity of the power facility.  Manages personnel who operate, maintain, and repair equipment to produce electrical energy and thermal energy.  Meets or exceeds budget projections for the facility.  Works under the direction of the Plant Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development, implementation, and management of the plant's goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs. Assures all operations and maintenance staff complete required safety, compliance, and procedural training needed to achieve and maintain qualifications.
  • Plans, schedules, and supervises maintenance activities in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, system specifications, and as indicated by equipment performance. Plans, coordinates, and manages contractors in the completion of repair and maintenance work.
  • Assures proper staffing, scheduling, orientation, and training of the plant staff and manages compliance with all company policies and procedures. Directs operations and maintenance personnel to ensure plant goals are met or exceeded. 
  • Manages effective communications with the Plant Manager and direct reports to ensure all parties are informed on topics critical to job functionality. Prepare monthly operating reports and maintain required operational and maintenance records.
  • Manages and participates in the development and administration of the Plant’s annual budget; participates in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors and approves expenditures; implements adjustments.
  • Maintains and controls the work program so that manpower, equipment, and materials are allocated effectively and efficiently to meet all required maintenance and operating requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience demonstrating operations, services and activities of comprehensive maintenance, installation and repair programs including routine and critical maintenance activities.
  • Experience demonstrating principles and practices of preventive maintenance and repair for plant, and balance of plant equipment.
  • Experience in maintaining/utilizing reporting systems.
  • Experience demonstrating preparation and administration of budget systems, project scheduling and management.
  • Experience demonstrating program development and administration, supervision, training, and performance evaluation. As well as, experience in selecting, supervising, training, and evaluating staff. 
  • Experience demonstrating oversight and direction of comprehensive maintenance, installation and repair programs, maintenance reporting, and budget systems. 
  • Experience analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions and implementing recommendations in support of goals. 
  • Experience demonstrating interpreting and applying Federal, State, and local policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Experience communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. As well as establishing/maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 8 year's relevant power plant experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a management position.  
  • 4 year degree or commensurate experience required.
