Job Summary

We seek a dedicated professional to join our Central Gas Control training program. This position provides comprehensive preparation for certification as a Qualified Gas Controller, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our regional natural gas distribution system through centralized monitoring and control protocols. The successful candidate will develop expertise in SCADA operations, system optimization, and emergency response procedures under the guidance of experienced control room personnel. 

 

**This position is not remote, chosen candidate must reside within 1 hour of primary and backup control centers**

Duties and Responsibilities

Training and Development (6-13 months)
•    Complete comprehensive Gas Controller training program with structured OQ curriculum covering all required operational competencies
•    Work alongside qualified controllers during on-shift training period to develop operational knowledge and system expertise
•    Master alarm response protocols for effective resource dispatch during routine and emergency system conditions
•    Complete fatigue management training and Gas Control policies and procedures certification
 
System Operations and Control
•    Learn to operate UGI and UGIES facilities through SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and Ignition liquids control platforms
•    Execute control setpoint adjustments to maintain system integrity and achieve supply balancing objectives
•    Monitor system pressures, temperatures, and flow parameters to ensure optimal operational performance
•    Navigate pipeline supplier electronic bulletin boards to review and confirm Total Daily Entitlements (TDE)
 
Alarm Management and Emergency Response
•    Monitor and respond to safety and non-safety alarms across all UGI and UGIES systems in accordance with documented protocols
•    Diagnose system alarms including pressure variations, temperature anomalies, communication failures, and potential leak indicators
•    Evaluate control, instrumentation, and delivery system malfunctions that may impact system integrity
•    Communicate effectively with dispatch, M&R, telemetry, LNG, compressor, and pipeline personnel to ensure timely issue resolution
 
Documentation and Reporting
•    Maintain accurate Operator Message Log documentation for all system-related activities and alarm responses
•    Update hourly and daily system logs detailing operational activities, flow data, and gas supply planning
•    Prepare detailed system load estimates using SCADA tools, weather data, and Gasday forecasting information
•    Document all operational decisions and system adjustments with precision and attention to detail

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Technical Competencies
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with ability to adapt to changing operational conditions
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills for accurate information recording and sharing
•    Capability to complete Operator Qualification in Remote Pressure and Flow Control
•    Proficiency in SCADA Alarm Response and system operation procedures
 
Operational Requirements
•    Ability to work 24/7 rotating shift schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
•    Capacity to manage stressful situations and respond effectively under pressure
•    Application of fatigue management principles to maintain operational safety and performance
•    Commitment to complete 6-13 month comprehensive training program
 
Geographic and System Knowledge
•    General understanding of UGI and UGIES system infrastructure and service territory geography
•    Knowledge of company call-out procedures and emergency response protocols for Gas Supply and Operations
•    Must maintain residence within one hour of primary and backup control centers

Education and Experience

•    Associate/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical training and/or relevant experience
•    Preferred Minimum 2-6 years of utility operations experience
•    Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint etc.)
•    Ability to navigate internet-based systems and electronic bulletin boards
 
Professional Development
•    This position offers structured career advancement through our comprehensive Gas Controller training program. Upon successful completion of the OQ program and on-shift training, candidates will be certified to independently manage critical gas system operations, positioning them for advancement to Gas Controller 2.
