Job Summary
The Pipeline Technician I is responsible for the maintenance and operations of UGIES pipelines. Troubleshoots, tests, maintains, and repairs pipeline equipment such as valves, operators, and piping. Performs periodic inspections of Right of Ways, valves, and assists with routine maintenance such as dewatering of UGIES Pipelines. Responsible for completing preventative maintenance and compliance related paperwork.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of UGIES Pipeline operations including flow direction, valve and M&R locations, and associated facilities.
- Inspect, maintain, and operate facilities including pipelines and pipeline equipment in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner.
- Maintain a working knowledge of regulatory requirements
- Plan, organize, and prioritize assigned responsibilities and coordinate with employees and contractors
- Serve as a point of contact for landowners along existing pipelines.
- Perform routine and straight forward activities.
- Understand the importance of safety processes and procedures.
- Basic understanding of pressures.
- Basic Pipeline Knowledge.
- Ability to follow GOM procedures.
- Understand LOTO.
- Coordinate and complete all right of way maintenance including reseeding, mowing, fixing erosion, and other environmental issues.
- Conduct damage prevention activities including pipeline patrols, PA One calls, locating and marking pipelines, inspecting line crossings, excavations, and other activities affecting the pipeline
- Coordinate and communicate with outside parties including landowners, public agencies, contractors, utilities, and other pipeline operators
- Assist with pipeline maintenance projects.
- Assist with M&R station maintenance and compliance tasks when required.
- Assist the Cathodic Protection group when required
- Complete tasks with close supervision.
- Assist the construction group during new construction when required.
- Provide on-call support for area of responsibility on a rotating basis
- Maintain required Operator Qualifications to perform duties.
- Comply with UGIES safety policies and procedures
- Assist any other departments as required
- Ability to complete work orders in SAP.
- Perform other job-related duties as required
- Ability to work in a team.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience working with regulated commodities, specifically propane and natural gas
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with the ability to learn and perform operation and maintenance tasks associated with various types of facilities and equipment
- Professional, reliable, self-directing work habits
- Proficiency with computers including MS Office applications such as Excel and Outlook as well as other computer-based work training, time reporting, expense reporting, and on-line work applications and documentation
- Ability to travel to all pipelines
- Ability to adapt to changes such as types of equipment used, software platforms, and company procedures.
- Ability to become a key member of a team by possessing strong communication skills, highly adaptable, responsible and respectful.
- Ability to read and understand verbal/written instructions and signage in English
- Ability to communicate with others in English
- Ability to speak a second language, a plus
- Record keeping.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
- 1-3 years of industry-related experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a group environment
- Demonstrated self-starter with the ability to work independently and exercise good judgement
- Valid driver’s license with demonstrated safe driving record
