Job Summary

Hands on responsibility to start, stop, adjust, and monitor plant equipment.   Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks as required. Equipment to include but not limited to; gas turbines, steam turbines, heat recovery steam generators, water purifications systems, chillers, and balance of plant equipment.  This is a Union hourly position working a rotating 12 hour shift.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Man plant shift operations which includes the monitoring, maintenance, and operation of plant equipment.
  • Make shift rounds and maintain shift operating logs and records.  Report any problems immediately to the A Operator.
  • Position and configure plant equipment for proper operation.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks, inspections and trouble shooting as assigned.
  • Assist in the development of standard operational procedures.
  • Assist Plant maintenance personnel when required.
  • Implement safe working practices, identify hazards and take corrective actions. 
  • Handle and transfer bulk chemicals (including Aqueous Ammonia), and inert and explosive gases (H2, N2, O2, acetylene, CO2). 
  • Perform chemical analysis and chemical control on steam, cooling, and condensate systems. Maintain chemistry logs.
  • Maintain plant security and housekeeping in assigned areas.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as man lift and forklift.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must be able to occasionally climb ladders; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways at elevations of 100 feet and more; correctly wear and work using self-contained breathing apparatus.

This job requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells. Must demonstrate the ability to observe, hear, walk and communicate effectively.  Must be able to wear a respirator and use other safety equipment as required.

Education and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent with trade school, military service or other technical training. Additional professional training preferred.
  • Minimum of two years recent operations experience in power generating facilities or process plants. Additional experience with machinery repair and control systems is a plus.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the kinds and types of equipment installed. This knowledge can be derived through a combination of hands-on experience and formal training.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with a basic understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity and mathematics. Must be able to respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, and readouts.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test, physical and a background investigation.
