UGI Energy Services, LLC (UGIES) is a diverse and rapidly growing energy company specializing in the development of natural gas related infrastructure, and derived commodities.  The Pipeline Integrity & Corrosion Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the ongoing integrity of pipeline and facility assets through execution of the Integrity Management Program and providing support to Operations for all cathodic protection systems.  


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Company’s Integrity Management Plan (IMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) in areas such as risk assessment, data integration, anomaly evaluation, remediation programs, integrity program evaluation, cathodic protection testing, and cathodic protection design.
  • Document all aspects of pipeline integrity management.
  • Identify new pipeline threats, prepare pre-assessment data, select appropriate assessment methods, recommend preventative and mitigative measures, recommend re-assessment intervals, and draft written post-assessment reports.
  • Initiate and lead interaction with appropriate subject matter experts and other stakeholders such as third party resources and vendors for field evaluations.
  • Conduct annual risk analysis for pipeline systems. Create risk models for newly built or acquired pipelines.
  • Conduct annual risk review meetings with stakeholders (management, engineering, operations).
  • Provide technical support to Operations with pipeline assessments, evaluation, repair methods, and cathodic protection system troubleshooting.
  • Assists in inspections by PHMSA and other regulatory bodies by acting as an SME on pipeline inspections, data, records, and program execution.
  • Assists in developing improvements to the company’s Integrity Management Plan.
  • Collect and provide Pipeline Integrity related data for performance metrics, required annual reporting, and to help monitor key performance indicators for assigned assets.
  • Provide input to support the construction of new pipelines and/or perform due diligence to support Pipeline Integrity efforts to incorporate newly operated assets into the IMP.
  • Design new cathodic protection systems and develop drawings, material lists, and commissioning procedures. Support cathodic protection systems for pipelines, compressor stations, tanks, and process facilities. Conduct field testing as required to design new systems and troubleshoot existing systems.
  • Develop specifications for assessment methods such as ILI, CIS, ACVG, DCVG, and pressure testing.
  • Develop contacts with key engineers and officials in other organizations to confirm that engineering practices applied are consistent with current engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and current technological innovations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards, particularly ASME B31.8S and CFR Title 49 Part 192/195.  Additional familiarity with API standards and NACE standards desired.
  • Fundamental knowledge of pipeline integrity threats and mechanisms, familiarity with pipeline integrity assessment methods and respective capabilities and limitations, ability to interpret assessment and inspection results required.
  • Working experience with Piping and Instrument Diagrams, as built drawings, alignment sheets, construction records, pressure tests, cathodic protection data, and survey data required.
  • Self-motivated and able to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and an eagerness to work within a team setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required; additional proficiency in American Innovations PCS, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS preferred.

Education and Experience Required:

  • BS in Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering strongly preferred; BS or 5 years of closely related work experience required
  • REQUIRED: 5-8 years of experience working in a pipeline operating environment or at an engineering consulting firm.  
  • Preference given to applicants with experience in cathodic protection design and integrity management of pipeline facilities.
  • NACE CP2 required. NACE CP3 and PCIM Technologist preferred.
