Job Summary:
The Automation Controls Technician role is responsible for installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the PLC and RTU based control systems. Management of the SCADA interface, and process control systems, of the natural gas gathering lines, compression facilities, cryogenic plant, metering stations, and natural gas liquids lines for the UGI Appalachia region (Western PA, OH, WV).
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Configure, update, maintain, program, and troubleshoot existing PLCs and HMI applications and embedded control systems.
- Configure and maintain end to end communications from field devices to the Ignition SCADA system.
- Knowledge of communication protocols to include but not limited to OPC, modbus, and TCP.
- Knowledge of database architectures, queries, and maintenance.
- Experience with field installation and commissioning.
Maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of field instrumentation devices for process equipment, including:
- Flow devices
- Pressure devices
- Temperature devices
- Direct and inferential level measurement devices
- Analytical equipment and instrumentation
- Document changes or modifications related to electrical and process controls to all electrical and instrumentation systems. These changes can include red-lining and updating electrical one-line diagrams, elementary diagrams, wiring schematics, control schematics, P&IDs, cause and effect, instrument loop diagrams, and interconnect diagrams.
- Work closely with the operations, commercial, engineering, safety, finance, land, and environmental departments to maximize efficiency.
- Support Plant Operations to minimize production impacts and enhance reliability.
- Ensure compliance with PHMSA 192 and 195 code requirements, including Operator Qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Interpret and troubleshoot PLC and DHS logic
- Troubleshooting instrumentation.
- Collaborate with others on the design and implementation of electrical, HMI, and Ignition SCADA systems.
- Assist in making changes in software programs and functional operation of Ignition SCADA systems.
- Foster a culture of safety and regulatory compliance with continuous improvement by optimizing processes and reducing costs while maintaining safety and reliability.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation, including compliance and maintenance records.
- Ensure completion of all preventive maintenance, repair, and administrative work from the work management system (SAP).
Education & Experience :
- Associates is preferred or related field or equivalent work experience.
- At least three (3) years of experience working with natural gas and five (5) years of combined experience in a technical field encompassing automation, instrumentation, electrical, measurement, SCADA, or networking are required.
