The Director, Distribution Operations is responsible for effective and efficient planning, logistics, and on-time delivery performance for the entire AmeriGas last-mile delivery operation. This position works closely with the field to ensure routes are effectively meeting the needs of the field and our customers, while driving improvement in key metrics to achieve company goals. The director will lead the change management effort to obtain field support within the centralized routing model through collaboration and inclusion. This role will proactively lead the company’s continuous improvement efforts to drive operational efficiency and customer responsiveness through routing optimization, the development and support of a best-in-class organization, leveraging future delivery-management technology, processes, and best practices to standardize the team’s approach to automated route planning.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Direct oversight and support for the routing teams’ management staffing and leadership within the department
  • Monitor, assess, and coach Delivery Operations Support Team in partnership with Center Director, as well as dotted-line participation in their mid-year and annual reviews
  • Partner with IT, SAP, Field Operations, and POE Centers in the oversight and management of the automated routing & scheduling software
  • Develop metrics to measure productivity, service, and delivery expense
  • Ensure that the team is addressing all district issues to understand expectations and ensure a cohesive distribution strategy 
  • Oversee the utilization of technology and future enhancements to ensure most effective routes are built
  • Participate in ongoing development of automated route planning enablers, processes, and technology
  • Monitor applicable reporting to ensure compliance to company SOPs and route adherence and provide feedback to field operations
  • Provide input to the training and development programs for Delivery Operations Support Coordinators
  • Implement/manage an updated approach to fixed cycle deliveries (cylinders & bulk) 
  • Coordinate with National Accounts and ACE Sales teams on new and existing fixed delivery cycle updates/changes
  • Represent Distribution/Supply Chain in the design and implementation of the new routing/delivery software
  • Partner with the BI team to develop/improve ARP dashboards 
     

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, able to motivate and develop people 
  • Knowledge in logistics management and DOT regulations
  • Must have a strong leadership presence 
  • Change management agent to support organizational alignment and buy-in 
  • Ability to plan, problem-solve, and provide innovative solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills – including persuasion & influence skills
     

 

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • 5+ years of Management experience
  • 5 years’ experience in routing and delivery
  • Prior experience working with SAP preferred 
  • Project Management or Process Improvement experience preferred
