Director of Trading and Optimization - Gas Supply

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Manage daily activities of the natural gas physical trading group (3-4 individuals) to ensure we have competitively-priced supply at each demand location for our wholesale and retail obligations.
  • Manage optimization activities around the capacity and storage contracts we own and/or manage to maximize margin.
  • Maximize profitability of peak shaving assets through efficient dispatch, while ensuring we have ample supply to cover our contractual obligations.
  • Manage daily activities of the financial trading group (1-2 individuals) to ensure our wholesale and retail positions are locked consistent with the corporate risk management policy and UGIES practices.
  • Ensure strict adherence to corporate risk management policy and protocols along with FERC compliance and other regulations, reporting activity as required.
  • Manage and support wholesale and retail activity, financial hedging, strategic asset management and market pricing.
  • Maintain and enhance existing marketing models and help build out new trading models, including sub-models that support the primary trading models where applicable.
  • Assist with valuing pipeline capacity and asset management opportunities.
  • Direct and monitor natural gas financial transactions in accordance with our hedging programs.
  • Ability to understand and communicate energy markets, particularly natural gas, regarding parameters such as costs, risk metrics, supply diversification, market liquidity, and location.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Superior knowledge of MS Office Products (Word/Excel).
  • Professional, reliable and self-directing work habits.
  • Knowledge of FERC rules and regulations.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of federal rules and issues affecting the natural gas industry.
  • Knowledgeable of natural gas portfolio management, particularly from the perspective of various risk metrics.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 8 years of experience in trading operations or in the natural gas industry.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
