Job Summary

To assist other engineers in the group with assigned engineering work, primarily involving the existing distribution system and its facilities in situations affected by physical conditions, pressure, and/or roadway construction activity, to research and design potential additions and modifications to the distribution system utilizing budgeted and allocated resources in an effective, efficient and professional manner, and in compliance with applicable Codes and Company policies and goals. UGI Utilities Inc., employs Engineers in multiple locations in Bethlehem, Middletown, Reading, and Wilkes Barre.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist other engineers in the group with reviewing roadway construction plans from the State, municipalities, contractors and/or developers for conflicts and/or needed system maintenance to be done in coordination with proposed construction activity. Progress to the ability to determine conflicts, and potentially designing resolution.  
  • Assist other engineers in group in researching internal records & assess system conditions via MapFrame, Optimain, network analysis, etc. for planning system facility replacements due to condition or pressure needs, or to assess involvement with proposed State or Municipal roadway improvement plans.  At the end of assignment period, be able to do this independently.
  • Without supervision/direction, design and estimate costs for all non-complex and some complex distribution system additions and modifications including utilizing DOJM and other work order systems, combined with the Annual Pipeline Contract, to cost-effectively specify design parameters and to select contractors, and/or create bid packages.  Progress from job order type projects into simple projects.
  • Assist other engineers in the group to monitor projects for actual installation versus design including field coordination during construction, assessment of project costs using Oracle.  At the end of the assignment period, be able to provide cost summaries to the engineers independently.
  • Assist other engineers with administrative task to enable their task to reach construction or completion.  These include municipal paving letters, meter move out letters, assist with purchase order development, etc.  At the end of the assignment period, be able to perform these tasks independently.
  • Complete all other work assignments and special projects as directed by the Manager Area Engineering.  Spend one day per week on average in the field observing facility installations to learn industry practices and procedures, especially for unusual construction projects.
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of science and engineering.
  • Oral and written communication skills, and computer skills.
  • Drawing and drafting skills through CADD.
  • Skills in problem solving.
  • Skills in project management.

Education and Experience

  • Participations in a college engineering, science or technical program.
  • Technical, Science, and Engineering Knowledge.
