Summary:

Provide direction for the employee retirement and benefits functions which cover UGI Utilities, UGI Corporation, UGI Energy Services, UGI Enterprises, and UGI HVAC Enterprises employees ensuring benefit and retirement plans meet all legal requirements.  Provide oversight to administration and implementation related to employee benefits.  Recommend changes to plan design as required and provide oversight to a diversity of legal, financial, regulatory and policy administration issues related to benefits.  Develop communication strategies, deliver communications, and provide excellent customer service to our employees directly and through the team this role manages.  Actively manage vendors and ensure the company is getting the highest value for our spend.  Coach, develop and manage employees that report to this role.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

Health & Welfare Administration

  • Provide direction for administration, design, implementation, and legal compliance of cost effective and competitive benefit plans for UGI Companies (Utilities, Corporate, and Energy Services).
  • Oversee the daily administration of UGI’s benefit plans including medical, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability plans, life, AD&D, BTA, EAP, and stop loss insurance
  • Manage renewal process and transition to new vendors, if applicable
  • Manage annual enrollment process including communications, benefits platform, and HRIS modifications; partner with payroll to ensure seamless year-end and correct deductions each new year
  • With legal guidance, ensure benefit documentation and amendments are prepared and executed
  • Consult with area HR Managers on various benefit related matters such as leave of absence issues, severance, and terminations
  • Prepare and manage annual benefits budget
  • Recommend and implement new programs
  • Provide field HR with information about various benefits programs to enable their ability to support employees in their region
  • Participate in ongoing benefits related HRIS system improvements and corrections

     

    Health & Welfare Annual Enrollment

  • Implement changes in carriers and plan design
  • Participate as needed in Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
  • Manage and oversee open enrollment materials and conduct communication meetings
  • Participate as subject matter expert (SME) on team to implement changes to HRIS system

     

    Retirement Plans

  • Provide direction for administration, design, implementation, and legal compliance of cost effective and competitive retirement (pension & 401k) plans for UGI Companies (Utilities, Corporate, Energy Services, And HVAC).
  • Oversee the administration of the retirement income plan and the 401(K) Savings Plan
  • Support RFP process and transition to new vendors when/if applicable.
  • Manage auto-enrollment process including communications, and provider platform modifications.
  • With legal guidance, ensure benefit documentation and amendments are prepared and executed.
  • Interact with trustees, legal counsel, consultants, management, field HR and retirees
  • Review provider communication budget and determine how UGI companies will utilize the offerings each year.
  • Prepare and manage annual retirement budgets.
  • Recommend new programs and implement.
  • Review and approve pension calculations.
  • Verify that Qualified Domestics Relations Orders (QDROs) are valid and administer outstanding QDROs.
  • Provide field HR with information about retirement program to enable their ability to support.

     

    Wellness Program

  • Manage, administer and communicate the wellness program for all UGI locations.
  • Lead wellness committee efforts and events.
  • Coordinate and attend annual Safety Summit with Wellness and Benefit vendors.
  • Engage Wellness/Mindfulness Speaker for Safety Summit.

     

    Other

  • Assist with the development of materials and prepare presentations for plan changes to the Retirement Committee, Benefits Committee, Pension Committee and the BOD Pension Committee presentations.
  • Monitor and manage required annual compliance filings and communications (5500, DB Annual Funding Notice, 401K Summary Annual Reports, DC Annual Non-Discrimination Testing, 3-year Retirement Plan Discrimination Testing, 401K Annual QDIA Notice, H&W/ACA Compliance and Filing Requirements, H&W Summary Annual Reports, H&W Annual Enrollment Required Notices).
  • Develop materials for various presentations and meetings; coordinate and conduct employee benefit meetings.
  • Complete detailed analysis of claims data received and provide high level information about projections to assist the accounting department with determining accruals.
  • Work closely with Payroll and HRIS on issues, report development, system changes required due to new or revised benefit plans, data requirements, administrative procedures, the establishment of new companies, electronic carrier/vendor reporting, etc.
  • Monitor, support and perform the necessary tasks to ensure that the Benefits Administration department is in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley 404.
  • Provide support as needed for benefit union negotiations discussions and data.
  • Manage assimilation of acquired employees including duplication on union benefits.
  • Other special projects as assigned such as eligibility and claims audit, etc.

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Solid knowledge of plan design, federal and state laws governing benefit plans, and regulatory requirements.
  • Detailed knowledge of Company benefits programs.
  • Familiarity with ADP, SAP or HRIS systems in general.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; collaborate and communicate erring on inclusion of corporate department stakeholders especially with regulatory filings; escalate issues immediately to provide opportunity for mitigation.
  • Knowledge of corporate philosophy and policies regarding benefits, as well as internal budgeting, analysis and accounting procedures
  • Up-to-date knowledge in trends in benefits and retirement
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks successfully
  • Proficient in working in benefits systems/platforms, BenefitFocus highly desired
  • Practical experience actively managing various regulatory filings (e.g., 5500)

     

    Qualifications/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree – preferred field of Human Resources, Business or financial major or combined education and experience is required
  • 8 years of progressive experience in benefits
  • SHRM and /or CEBS certifications preferred

     

    Working Conditions:

  • Regular office conditions, some travel involved – heavy travel during annual benefits enrollment period (~3 weeks in late October to November)
