In this role, you will oversee design, development, implementation and maintaining of the global (Enterprise and Cross-Business Unit [BU]) category plan and category insights by analyzing historical and projected spend, contractual relationships, and industry trends. Develop a category strategy, providing a canvass that informs, grounds and governs all category-, subcategory- and sourcing-related planning, activities and events. Lead the team on developing and executing the sourcing plan, collaborating with business unit stakeholders, and sourcing leads to drive optimal value for purchased goods and services. You will manage the planning, directing, or executing activities related to acquisition of goods and services,   In this role, your responsibilities will include competitive selection of supplier(s) by following UGI's strategic sourcing process and contracting based on established guidelines.  


Develop market and technical knowledge of categories, develop credibility amongst business for category/industry knowledge.  Partner with BU leadership, functional leadership, category managers and execution teams to set the direction for related segments and/or line items, ensuring a comprehensive and consistent approach is taken.  Lead and manage category management team with alignment of goals and the development of our people, including but not limited only to knowledge, skills, abilities and alignment with UGI Family of Companies’ values.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

Strategic Category Management Accountabilities

 

•    Develop, implement and manage the high-level category strategy and related profiles, including category-level sourcing opportunity identification and implementation across the UGI Family of Companies
•    Direct and manage the market intelligence gathering, incorporate these findings into sourcing strategies, as well as using it to inform the overall demand placed on procurement sources

 

Management of Category Management Staff

 

•    Manage the team on conducting category-specific assessments of supply market to support decisions and influence management 
•    Oversee team in conducting spend and demand analysis to identify opportunities, as well as ensure optimal spend leverage across the enterprise 
•    Provide oversight on development and maintenance of category plan and category strategies working in collaboration with business stakeholders 
•    Guide team in providing category insights and expertise to business stakeholders and manage internal stakeholder relationships 
•    Direct the category management team, which includes clear and current role definitions that outline responsibilities, capabilities and required competencies
•    Lead and ensure those involved in working with suppliers and within global contracts are informed and prepared to execute category strategies
•    Provide end-to-end management of the category management roles reporting into this role, which includes, but it not limited to:

         o    Sourcing

         o    Contracting

         o    Execution of full category management plans 

         o    Prioritize workload and support where needed

         o    Engage with business partners and others within Procurement for problem resolution

•    Review and approve category profiles/plans prepared by supporting category managers to ensure they are in alignment with objectives

 

Category Management


•    Leverage procurement spend in assigned category areas by leading cross-functional category teams to gather and analyze pertinent data

       o    Current and forecasted spend

       o    Budgets

       o    Customer and BU related requirements

       o    Benchmarks

       o    Defining and delivering a value plan that includes Supplier Relationship Management
•    Lead the drive for annual cost reduction commitments, strategic sourcing, source selection, and supplier management for in scope categories 
•    Identify and establish strategic relationships with global suppliers and guide overall management of those relationships
•    Maintain responsibility for the profiling methodology, execution, governance and key decisions related to supporting subcategories line items and/or segments
•    Manage supplier identification, evaluation, negotiation, selection, contracting and associated implementation for in-scope categories
•    Oversee procurement needs based on UGI's changing demands and manage work with suppliers to ensure that procurement needs of UGI are met on a timely manner
•    Manage high level reporting on vendor performance to ensure that procurement needs of the organization are met
•    Make recommendations about monitoring and reporting on the availability of and need for procured inventory  Adjust procurement needs based on the organization's changing demands, and management of purchased                     materials, products, and services

 

Strategic Sourcing


•    Oversee the team in gathering information about the equipment, provisions, services, and other needs of UGI
•    Provide oversight on RFx process, including communication between business unit stakeholders and suppliers 
•    Develop processes and procedures to provide analysis and insight to the vendor selection process to ensure that procurement needs of the organization are met
•    Oversee the negotiation of agreement terms with selected suppliers, manage work with key stakeholders (legal, BU, finance, etc.) to execute contracts 
•    Perform other duties, participate in projects, and complete other tasks, as requested. Provide continuous training and development for team

 

Job Requirements

 

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Business (or other related degree programs) MBA preferred
•    Nationally recognized professional certification preferred (Technical Certificate, Certified Purchasing Manager or Certified Professional Contract Manager
•    Minimum of 8 years of experience in category management and strategic sourcing experience including mastery in category profiling, strategy derivation, spend assessment, project management, and financial modeling,                    minimum of 3 years overseeing the work of others/managing others
•    Ability to lead and indirectly influence in a global, matrixed team environment
•    Expert-level knowledge of energy related categories
•    Expert in the category management including market analysis, demand management, strategic sourcing process, g supplier relationship management,  risk management and the ability to track the value delivery of the category        management work
•    Expert in sourcing strategy formulation and implementation; process development / reengineering; contract / agreement writing; supplier/contract management; and continuous improvement
•    Ability to represent inter-departmental and corporate issues across internal and external boundaries
•    Proven track record in delivery of complex, cross functional procurement initiatives on time and on-budget
•    Ability to interface at all levels of the organization and with suppliers to solve problems when facing evolving demands
•    Demonstrated success in leveraging company-wide spend by ensuring the implementation of global/international agreements
•    Experience managing and developing teams
