This position, under minimal supervision, plays an integral role for all aspects of technical research on accounting and financial reporting issues and document conclusions in technical memos.  The incumbent serves as a subject matter expert on specialized accounting areas, including but not limited to, share-based compensation accounting, earnings per share, goodwill impairment assessment, segment determination, asset impairment analysis, and business combinations.  The incumbent also supports timely completion and filing of the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) periodic reports (i.e. Forms 10-Q/K and 8-K) for the UGI’s three registrants in accordance with the accounting standards generally accepted in the U.S. (“GAAP”) and the SEC regulations by assisting in the preparation of financial statements and footnote disclosures, included in the SEC periodic reports and assists in various projects involving moderately complex accounting and financial reporting issues.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Technical Accounting. Under the minimal direction, supervision and guidance, perform technical research on moderately complex accounting and financial reporting issues using various research tools and document basis for conclusion in technical memos.  Research accounting pronouncements and SEC rules and regulations and determine impact on the Company and its subsidiaries, disseminate relevant new emerging developments in new accounting guidance and SEC regulations to all stakeholders within the organization.  Provide technical accounting support in complex transactions, including debt/equity financing activities, business combination, segment/reporting unit determination, and asset impairment analysis.  Coordinate with the UGI Headquarter Accounting Policy group in the development of the Company’s accounting policies.
  • Share-based Compensation Accounting.  In close coordination with UGI’s Human Resources group and third party service provider, prepare monthly journal entries to record share-based compensation expense and payout activity and communicate expense and liability amounts to respective business units on a monthly basis.  Prepare monthly reconciliations of share-based compensation activities and weighted average shares outstanding calculation in support of monthly journal entries and disclosures included in the financial statements.  Draft share-based compensation and employee retirement plans footnote disclosures included in the Company’s SEC periodic filings in accordance with GAAP and SEC regulation.   Assist in preparing the budget for share-based compensation expense on an annual basis.  Compile routine and ad hoc information to provide to UGI Corporate Tax department requests related to executive share-based compensation.
  • External Reporting.  Assist in the external reporting processes, including quarterly and annual financial statements and earnings release of the Company’s three SEC registrants: UGI Corporation, AmeriGas Partners and UGI Utilities.  Assist in preparation of schedules and analyses of significant components of the financial statements and other analyses requested by senior management and complete moderately complex accounting and financial reporting processes. Initiate and implement process improvements in the financial reporting processes. 
  • Other duties.  Provide supports to other groups within the organization (i.e., Treasury, Legal, Financial Planning, Investor Relations, Tax, SOX, etc.) related to accounting and financial reporting matters. Assist in ad-hoc projects as needed


Job Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and/ or finance. 
  • CPA designation or progress towards CPA designation preferred. 
  • Minimum 4-5 years in public accounting or mix of public accounting and industry experience. 
  • Big 4 accounting firm experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, SEC regulations, SOX 404 rules and applicable PCAOB developments.
  • Prior experience in technical research and drafting of technical memos on accounting and financial reporting issues required.
  • Proficiency at intermediate/advanced level for Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with auditors for information as requested.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and able to work in a collaborative environment and interact effectively with domestic and international accounting teams.
  • Ability and willingness to work extra hours to meet tight deadlines.
