Responsible for overseeing and managing the accounting for income taxes function for a publicly traded multinational company in accordance with ASC 740. Responsible for adherence to all annual and quarterly related SEC reporting requirements and preparation of financial statement footnotes and disclosures related to income taxes for SEC registrant and various quarterly and annual subsidiary filings. Key responsibilities include ensuring the completeness and correctness of the current and deferred tax provisions, documenting uncertain tax positions, leading the annual tax basis balance sheet study and managing the provision- to- return reconciliation process for domestic, federal and state income tax filings. Assists with the preparation of certain entities and review of certain components of the federal income tax return.  Serve as a technical advisor with respect to income tax accounting matters including determining the effect of accounting standard changes on the organization, provide guidance and training to domestic and international accountants across a matrix organization.  Maintain control environment around income tax processes and procedures in accordance with all Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) controls. Interact with external auditors at the manager, director and partner level during quarterly and annual audits.


Job Responsibilities:

Manage income tax accounting:


  • Supervise the preparation of the income tax accrual process for 120+/- entities worldwide in accordance with ASC740.
  • Collect and review data from local finance personnel needed to prepare consolidated global income tax provision.
  • Provide income tax accounting advice to all subsidiaries through directive discussions.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and engage in quarterly reviews and annual audit with external auditors.
  • Review balance classification for all entities. (Jurisdictional netting). 
  • Prepare the quarterly and annual effective tax rate model for the consolidated worldwide group, including reviews by legal entity estimated calculated Annual Effective Tax Rates (AETR).

SEC and financial statement reporting for income taxes:


  • Prepare portions of the income tax footnote and related tax related disclosures in accordance with ASC 740 and related SEC reporting requirements for the annual audited financial statements for SEC registrant.
  • Prepare portions of the income tax sections of audited financial statements for other UGI subsidiaries that provide audited statements to 3rd parties.
  • Participate in the external audit process regarding the tax accounting sections of the audited financial statements.

Foreign tax accounting matters:                                                                                                            

  • Incorporate the quarterly AETR impacts, the annual PTR’s and year-end provision tax package rollover, collection and review of foreign subsidiary tax accruals into the U.S. GAAP income tax accrual process. 


Tax provision/return coordination, review and reconciliation:                                                            

  • Assist in the reconciliation process between annual income tax returns (federal & state) and the annual tax provision.
  • Prepare adjustments and supervise subsidiary staff on the recording of adjustments in accordance with ASC 740.
  • Co-Ordinate the annual tax basis balance sheet study and current federal and state liability (payable) reconciliation processes.
  • Review provision to return adjustments surrounding the US tax consequences on foreign earnings (GILTI/FTC), including preparing the Section 861 allocation to allocate and apportion certain expenses (i.e., interest) between domestic and foreign baskets. 

Supervise control environment including assessments and updates (SOX):                                                    

  • Manage the quarterly and annual compliance of all Sarbanes-Oxley requirements including the maintenance and documentation of all corporate tax internal controls for the consolidated income tax reporting process.
  • Manage internal and external auditor testing and walk-throughs of controls.

Tax Compliance:                                                                                                                                

  • Assist with the review and preparation of foreign informational reporting requirements involving the completion of form 8858s and 5471s, including communications with external third-party providers.
  • Prepare and review certain aspects of the domestic compliance process, including a US sub consolidation with foreign disregarded entities, elimination entities and the overall domestic consolidated balance sheet process.                 

Tax Process Improvements and Efficiencies:                                                                                       

  • Team with other tax critical areas and accounting/finance departments to provide information flow and transparency between the tax compliance and accounting functions to drive efficiencies within the tax department.
  • Contribute to process improvement considerations within the income tax reporting and compliance areas, including process automation and expansion of systems (i.e., HFM, OneSource Tax Provision and OneSource Income Tax) to improve data outputs and efficiencies. Provide training to users where necessary.  


  • Assist with the annual compilation of budget and plan effective tax rates for the consolidated global group, including preparing analytics against comparable reporting periods. Includes coordination and communication with various departments and subsidiaries throughout the process (i.e., FP&A, foreign teams, subsidiary contacts, etc.). 

Supervise quarterly Estimated Payment Process:                                                                                

  • Mange the quarterly estimated income tax payment process with business unit and department staff coordinating calculations, payments and accounting thereof.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Advanced degree in accounting, taxation or finance 
  • CPA license preferred. 
  • 5+ years’ experience in ASC 740 and SEC reporting requirements required. Experience with OneSource Tax Provision, OneSource Income Tax, Microsoft Office Products and Hyperion HFM is required. 
  • Advanced knowledge of income tax accounting (ASC 740) and generally accepted accounting principles. 
  • Advanced knowledge of SEC reporting with respect to income taxes including financial statement preparation, footnotes and related tax account reconciliations.
  • Thorough knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley and the ability to design and manage key SOX controls over income tax accounting. 
  • Thorough knowledge of corporate and partnership federal and state income tax regulations. 
  • Knowledge of international income taxes and foreign tax credit issues, foreign currency accounting and the related accounting requirements pursuant to ASC 740. 
  • Ability to lead a dotted line reporting matrix with various business units to manage the income tax accounting process on a quarterly and annual basis.
