Job Summary

The Workers' Compensation Manager is a senior-level strategic leader responsible for the comprehensive management, direction, and optimization of the organization's workers' compensation program. This position requires expert-level knowledge and proven leadership in managing multi-million dollar claim portfolios, directing vendor partnerships, driving data-driven decision making, and establishing best-in-class programs that balance employee welfare with fiscal responsibility. The role serves as the organization's subject matter expert and primary decision-maker for all workers' compensation matters.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive workers' compensation strategy aligned with organizational risk management and human capital objectives
  • Lead strategic planning initiatives to optimize program outcomes, reduce total cost of risk, and enhance employee experience
  • Present quarterly business reviews and annual strategic plans to senior leadership and executive committee
  • Advise executive leadership on emerging trends, legislative changes, and strategic opportunities in workers' compensation management
  • Lead RFP processes for TPA selection, including vendor evaluation, contract negotiation, and implementation oversight
  • Lead annual insurance renewal process, including carrier negotiations, program design, and premium allocation strategies, analyzing total cost of risk and implement strategic initiatives to drive measurable cost reductions
  • Direct investigation and defense strategies for litigated claims in coordination with legal counsel and VP of Safety
  • Review and challenge TPA recommendations, ensuring alignment with organizational philosophy and financial objectives
  • Engage with field leadership to ensure program effectiveness across all locations and business units, building consensus and driving organization change to support program initiatives and process improvements.

  • Experience driving alignment and adoption of cross-functional Human Resource programs, processes, and initiatives desired
  • Demonstrated ability to deal directly with client leads to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • 10+ years in workers’ compensation claims management experience including managing vendor partnerships (TPAs.)
  • Demonstrated success leading vendor selection, contract negotiation, and performance management
