The Director of Risk & Corporate Insurance is responsible for the management of the Corporate Insurance Risk Management program for the eight business units of a $9.5 Billion international energy company.  Assures effective relationships with the Company’s insurance brokers to assure all insurable risk exposures are identified and the appropriate data is compiled across the organization to assure accurate and effective underwriting on the property, casualty, executive liability, cyber and employment related programs.  Responsible for assuring appropriate insurance coverage is selected, negotiated and approved by Management and placed with no gaps in coverage.

 

Given the growth of the company over the last 10 years, this individual should be able to identify areas to simplify, automate and advance all aspects of the insurance department; establishing best practices to enhance the effectiveness of the Corporate Insurance function.

 

The position assists in claims management oversight for all insurance programs through the Company’s third party administrators and brokers. This position coordinates with the Claims/Legal Department on large losses to ensure timely notification to insurance carriers and the proper communication of case reserves to the TPA, Actuary and Accounting. 

 

Provides oversight of United Valley Insurance Company (UGI Captive insurance company). Reviews and recommends the feasibility of risks underwritten by United Valley.  Coordinates the insurance programs with the business units.  Serve as Director on the UVIC Board.

 

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Compile exposure detail needed for the underwriting of the Company’s insurance programs.
  • Present underwriting profile and image of company in most favorable terms to brokers, underwriters, and regulatory personnel.
  • Coordinate with brokers to perform risk to determine adequate limits and retentions.
  • Provide formal underwriting overview to the New York, London and Bermuda markets on an annual basis.
  • Negotiate, bind and administer the $27 Million (premium and fees) Corporate Insurance Program.
  • Assists in claims handling processes for all domestic entities (Coordinate with AmeriGas workers’ compensation) to assure satisfactory and cost effective resolution of claims.
  • Develop and maintain claims reporting protocols including notification to carriers and management as well as formal oversight and reporting of large case reserves to management and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and present management reports to provide an overview of the Total Cost of Risk, claims and loss history, insurance coverage and ad-hoc requests including AmeriGas and UGI Audit Committee Presentations. Provide oversight on the Company’s surety bond program, COIs and other insurance-related documents.
  • Review contracts to ensure compliance with Risk Management insurance requirements, as well as identification of areas of potential risk for the organization.
  • Conduct insurance related due diligence on potential acquisition candidates and make recommendations on the risk exposure of this candidate to the company.
  • Partner with internal functions on and ongoing issues and advise and guide international companies on risk management and insurance needs.
  • Prepare budgets for eight business units and advise on cost impact from market conditions and large losses. Total budget for all business groups are in excess of $70 million including premiums and losses.
  • Allocate program premiums and fees based on exposures and assure premiums align with regulatory requirements. Oversee the processing of all insurance invoices to assure amounts are properly allocated to the proper business units.

  • Cultivate and supervise relationships with third party administrators, brokers, consultants and insurance carriers to assure the organizations risk profile is presented favorably and management is seen as engaged.

 

Requirements include:

              

  • Bachelor’s Degree along with professional designation of Associate of Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Certified Risk Manager (CRM). MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 15+ years of insurance experience as Risk Manager in a large multinational corporate setting, underwriter or broker with large brokerage house
  • Broad knowledge of risk management and insurance process, claims management, basic accounting practices, finance and insurance industry and policy forms
  • Knowledge of casualty and property claims handling
  • Ability to structure innovative insurance protection that is out of the ordinary main stream to solve unique risk problems
  • Strong operating knowledge of personal computers and related software applications
  • Ability to gain credibility with the Corporate, functional and business unit management
  • Ability to lead and inspire teams to deliver superior performance
  • Proven ability to manage significant change and gain stakeholder commitment
  • Strong work-ethic and interpersonal skills; alignment with UGI values and leadership competencies
