Job Summary

The Director – Office of CIO role is one of the CIO's trusted partners in leading IT to become a business-oriented organization. The position reports to the CIO and is responsible for managing the Office of the CIO (OCIO), providing leadership for the cross-functional management of information and technology across the enterprise. It oversees functions such as IT Strategy, Standards, Governance & Compliance, IT Vendor Management, and IT Financial Management.

The position focuses on ensuring that the IT organization "does the right things" through strategy, governance, and the definition of IT ways of working (for example, common methodologies, processes, and tools for developing and operating IT) as well as "doing things right" through organizational and operational model development and performance management. The position can also extend the responsibilities into developing nascent IT capabilities, such as enterprise architecture, enterprise change management and business relationship management, until they are mature enough to function as independent teams.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

•    Partners with the CIO in setting technology vision, strategy and direction for the enterprise
•    Drives focus and prioritization within the IT organization through establishing and oversight on IT strategy, strategic planning and governance processes to ensure IT can deliver value in alignment with business strategy and priorities
•    Manages the team of direct reports who make up the office of the CIO
•    Oversees the development and maintenance of IT policies, procedures, methodologies, tools for operating IT, and performance measurement frameworks to standardize, simplify and strengthen core/foundational operations 
•    Establishes and implements continuous-improvement programs for the IT organization
•    Stays current with developments in new market trends, innovations in technology and the leadership of enterprise IT to help develop nascent or new cross-functional IT capabilities within the organization
•    Facilitates change and drives effective collaboration/communications around IT 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•    Experience in business/industry (beyond IT), managing cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders.
•    Strong leadership capabilities, executing as appropriate in the areas of responsibility.
•    Broad-based knowledge of IT concepts, frameworks and techniques; Software Application Development methodologies, Operations Support, Project Management and Governance concepts 
•    Expertise in budget planning, financial management and workforce management
•    Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype.
•    Ability to improve operational efficiency; service delivery and information management across the IT organization.
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others.
 

Education and Experience

•    Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience
•    A minimum of 10 to 15 or more years of experience in IT and business/industry
•    A minimum of 5 to 7 years of leadership responsibilities
