Job Summary

The Sr. Manager of Application Development and Support (ADS) oversees all aspects of application support and software development focusing on Field and Operational solutions and leading a team of Information Technology (IT) professionals.  This includes management of all aspects of the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) with primary responsibility for the design, development, and implementation phases.  In addition, also responsible for identifying appropriate systems solutions that support business processes, estimating costs and timelines, and the subsequent oversight of projects that implement or enhance those solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Management of Application Development and Configurations: Direct, develop, and implement strategies to realize a consistent, predictable, high quality, and efficient methodology for Field facing and supporting Operational solutions, with emphasis on SAP’s S/4 Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Asset Data Collection software, and Field Workforce Scheduling, Dispatch & Mobility related solutions, as a part of UNITE Phase-3 projects.  Support capacity management and estimation efforts for projects. Guide and evaluate the quality of application design, documentation, and deployment efforts.  Provide recommendations on processes, tools, and technology platforms for development organization.  Oversee ongoing improvements and the feasibility of system enhancements.
  • Management of Maintenance and Support of Applications: Ensure the availability of a quality and robust SAP and legacy functional environment to support business needs effectively.  Organize and lead resources in the efficient delivery of monitoring and managing business applications, including break/fixes, preventative maintenance, and implementation of upgrades.  
  • Application Development Personnel: Manage the development of Enterprise solutions focused ADS personnel and work with Management team to define and guide development plans based on the technical requirements of the applications environment.  Manage team member relations including recruiting, coaching, career development, disciplinary actions, promotions, and salary administration.
  • IT Strategy and Enterprise Architecture: Manage the application portfolio in conjunction with the enterprise prioritization process for technology requests.  Evaluate and recommend improvements to the application portfolio in line with our IT Strategic Plan and associated Enterprise Technology Roadmap.  Establish and maintain relationships with vendors regarding technology currently in use or of potential value to the organization.
  • Governance: Work with ADS Managers and the PMO to ensure results achieve project objectives, timelines, budgetary, and quality measures.  Provide input to the application release plans.  Make recommendations for IT processes, tools, and technology platforms.  Establish and accomplish IT department goals and convey company and departmental objectives and direction to staff.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to company policies and standards; participate in the development and implementation of IT department standards and procedures including the SDLC and regulatory requirements.  Support enforcement of the SDLC and ensure the compliance with internal controls and respond to audit requests in a timely manner.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive and in-depth systems development and management experience in a hybrid environment that includes SAP and other vendor, cloud and custom solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience building and managing teams which deliver highly available, large scale transactional systems, and business intelligence environments. 
  • Thorough knowledge of project management and software development lifecycle, including project estimation, project planning, resource planning, project quality control, and project budget control.
  • Demonstrable experience managing the maintenance and evolution of SAP solutions, preferably S/4 HANA EAM, and exposure to Geo-spatial Info Systems such as ESRI and Field Dispatch and Mobility solutions
  • Demonstrable ability to effectively manage a multi-team, multi-application environment preferably in a regulated Utilities environment.
  • Ability to lead multiple concurrent development and configuration projects, and to oversee staff in ensuring quality of solution and adherence to project requirements, budgets, and timelines.
  • Proactive in seeking knowledge and understanding of new and emerging functionality with focus on the SAP ecosystem roadmap; and ability to evaluate the impact to the UGI ADS environment and to recommend changes to the UGI technical roadmap.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally or in writing with technical and non-technical staff on complex technical topics.
  • Ability to adapt to an evolving organizational environment and to lead the team through the change management.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities from a procedural, operational, technical, and budgeting perspective.
  • Proven ability to understand the business model and various business process of the organization, the core application environments and bring about effective solutions to business using SAP ERP, EAM and its ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams by providing mentorship, guidance, encouragement, and overall support.
  • Strong sense of collaboration and partnership with other IT Leadership as the IT Department transforms to a high-performing organization.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent certification or experience required.
  • Masters in information technology related field or MBA preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience in managing IT highly technical teams that are experienced in developing and supporting SAP EAM/ERP solutions required.
  • Eight (8) or more years’ management experience including SAP solutions in a regulated utilities environment preferred.
  • ITIL Foundations at hire or within 1-year of employment.
