The incumbent for this position will be to supervise all line construction and maintenance work performed by company linemen.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Supervise the work performed by company linemen including coordinating work with other departments and external customers as requested; organize, mobilize, and schedule the linemen workforce and equipment; and, assess the productivity of the linemen, the quality of work produced; and monitor performance to assure that work is performed to specification. Review all distribution line construction jobs that come into C&M and determine the most effective way to complete the job. Schedule jobs and assign them for completion by company crews, a contractor, or both based on their work backlog, the needs of the business, the company’s labor agreement, and customer requirements. Procure lump‐sum bids for major underground cable replacement projects. Monitor the contractors’ performance to assure their work is performed to UGI’s specification. Approve design changes and extra work. Verify invoices and produce payment releases.
  • Provide linemen and technical supervision to respond and to resolve service interruptions due to weather related outages and other system equipment failures. Maintain the Division's lighting plant and company owned service entrance equipment on customer premises. Locate and repair all line and equipment faults on the underground distribution system. Procure contractor services as required for the replacement of underground lines and for restoration. Procure contractor services as needed for the repair/replacement of company owned service entrance equipment. Verify invoices and produce payment releases.
  • Budget and monitor performance to budget for line C&M work performed by company linemen; determine and secure optimum linemen staffing levels and skill sets; and perform other related assignments: coordinate and schedule routine maintenance and unscheduled repair of company line C&M trucks and equipment.
  • Provide all programs and training for company linemen as needed to work safely, efficiently, and effectively. This includes satisfying all the requirements of OSHA Regulation 1910.269.
  • Evaluate, purchase and maintain vehicles, tools and equipment required for the company linemen to work safely, efficiently, and effectively. In collaboration with methods and standards personnel, evaluate alternative work practices, methods, hardware and construction standards. Implement those found to be most effective.
  • Call outs, storm restoration and Other Duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of UGI's distribution line construction standards, methods, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Safety Code and National Electric Code. PA 1-Call, and OSHA regulations pertaining to electric distribution work. Knowledge of UGI’s safety rules
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution equipment & power requirements
  • Knowledge of UGI’s Electric Service Tariff.
  • Knowledge of the UGI contractor/procurement process and the ability to develop a comprehensive scope of work.
  • Knowledge of end-use electrical equipment including lighting, electric machinery, and other electric apparatus.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and effectively both written and verbal. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to deal with the public and represent the company in a professional manner. Ability to organize and deploy resources effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects from start to completion. Ability to adapt standard practices to meet unique customer needs.
  • Knowledge of UGI internal systems such as SAP, DOJM and other systems.



  • A minimum of an associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Business or equivalent degree is preferred. Extent of experience will be considered if education is not in-line with the education requirement.
  • This position recommends 2-5 years of experience with increasing responsibility and skill level.


Working Conditions:

  • Typical office conditions – 60%
  • Outside, exposed to the elements, i.e., temperature extremes, mud, rain, snow, noise, etc., -  40%.
  • Must be able to work near energized electrical equipment.
