Position Summary:

Procure and manage the contractor crews as well as engineering large distribution jobs.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Supervise the T&M line construction contractor. Procure contractor line construction services. In collaboration with the line construction contractor's Superintendent; determine and specify the appropriate contractor equipment and workforce complement both on ED's property and assigned to each job. Schedule all construction projects utilizing contractor of choice and other outside contractors. ***Requisition materials for all distribution line construction jobs done on a T&M basis. ***Assess the T&M line construction contractor's productivity, optimal sizing, and monitor its performance to assure that work is performed to UGI's specification.
  • Design, engineer, and lay out identified large distribution improvement projects (line additions, rebuilds, and relocations) including production of design packages, bid procurement and cost estimates.
  • Perform special projects and other related engineering functions including assist preparing and administering the department budget, shadow higher grade engineers to increase their ability to perform more advanced engineering and assist in restoring service to customers after storms and other system trouble.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of UGI's distribution line construction standards, methods, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Safety Code and National Electric Code. PA 1-Call, and OSHA regulations pertaining to electric distribution work. Knowledge of UGI’s safety rules.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution equipment & power requirements.
  • Knowledge of UGI’s Electric Service Tariff.
  • Knowledge of the UGI contractor/procurement process and the ability to develop a comprehensive scope of work.
  • Knowledge of end-use electrical equipment including lighting, electric machinery, and other electric apparatus.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and effectively both written and verbal. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to deal with the public and represent the company in a professional manner. Ability to organize and deploy resources effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects from start to completion. Ability to adapt standard practices to meet unique customer needs.

Qualifications:

Education:  A minimum of a Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology is required. Extent of experience will be considered if education is not in-line with the education requirement.

Length of Experience:  This position requires industry experience of at least five (3) years with increasing responsibility and skill level.

Working Conditions: 

Typical office conditions – 50%

Outside, exposed to the elements, i.e., temperature extremes, mud, rain, snow, noise, etc.50%.

Must be able to work near energized electrical equipment.
