Summary:

 

To complete assigned engineering work, primarily involving the existing distribution system and its facilities in situations affected by physical conditions, pressure, and/or roadway construction activity, to research and design potential additions and modifications to the distribution system utilizing budgeted and allocated resources in an effective, efficient and professional manner, and in compliance with applicable Codes and Company policies and goals.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Review roadway construction plans from the State, municipalities, contractors and/or developers for conflicts and/or needed system maintenance to be done in coordination with proposed construction activity. 
  • Research internal records & assess system conditions via MapFrame, Optimain, network analysis, etc. for planning system facility replacements due to condition or pressure needs, or to assess involvement with proposed State or Municipal roadway improvement plans.
  • Communicate and internally coordinate workload priorities, C&M installation concerns, project manpower requirements, materials procurement, permit application, etc. regarding the design and implementation of projects.
  • Without supervision/direction, design and estimate costs for all non-complex and some complex distribution system additions and modifications including utilizing DOJM and other work order systems, combined with the Annual Pipeline Contract, to cost-effectively specify design parameters and to select contractors, and/or create bid packages.
  • Monitor projects for actual installation (and cost containment) versus design including field coordination during construction, assessment of project costs using Oracle, creation of change orders, post-construction debriefing with C&M.  As necessary, preparation of job completion packages for Central Maps & Records and Accounting Departments, completed job orders, etc.
  • Represent the Company at construction and/or utility meetings with the State, municipalities, contractors, developers, etc.
  • Complete all other work assignments and special projects as directed by the Manager Area Engineering.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all applicable Federal (DOT), State (PUC), and local codes and regulations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong computer skills.
  • Proficient drawing and drafting skills, particularly as related to natural gas construction
  • Proficient skills in decision making and problem solving
  • Proficient in project and program management

 

Qualifications:

  • A four-year college engineering degree is required.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Although most of the time is spent in a regular office environment, frequently expected to complete assigned duties in extreme hot or cold temperatures, where carbon monoxide and gas leak may exist, as well as on roadways where heavy traffic conditions exist.
