Summary:

 

In this position the incumbent will provide on an independent, self-directed basis, engineering and project management services on assigned projects related to protection of ED’s transmission and distribution system and focused on providing safe, reliable, and economic service to our customers. 

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Perform fault current and device coordination studies and recommend installation and modifications to protective equipment for the electric delivery system.  Provide technical assistance on testing and maintenance of relays and other protective equipment.  Evaluate all fault events on the transmission and distribution system for proper operation of relays and other protective devices. Provide project leadership on substation upgrade projects.
  • Develop and update assigned construction standards, engineering instructions, and operating instructions related to electrical equipment.  Develop and administer training programs for engineers, technicians, and field personnel covering new and existing equipment, including capacitors controls, protective devices, and voltage regulators.
  • Assist the transmission engineer supervising the operation and maintenance of all 66kv and 230kv transmission lines, rights-of-ways, and access roads.  This includes patrolling, maintenance type work, and coordination of various contractors, property owners, and other utilities.
  • Assist in coordinating the capacitor, switch, voltage regulator, and recloser maintenance and replacement programs.  Maintain a database of distribution equipment for all reclosers, capacitors, switches, and voltage regulators on the electric delivery system.  Communicate all system changes to System Operations.
  • Assist in coordinating the Electric Operating Department’s safety program.  Ensure that it is compliant with company policy and all applicable state and federal regulations.  Perform other duties as assigned of a similar and related nature.  Assist with storm restoration efforts as needed.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code.
  • PC skills related to the Microsoft Suite of programs.
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects from start to completion.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and effectively both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to deal with the public and represent the company in a professional manner.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.

 

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

 

Working Conditions:

  • 50% Outside
  • 50% Office
