Job Summary

Performs routine GIS edits to reflect changes to the electric utility network. Special GIS projects including right-of-way drawings. Maintain and oversee printing and distribution of various GIS mapbooks and mapping supplements. AutoCAD work including updates to system one-lines and also standards drawings. Various technical and computer-based projects including database querying/reporting and possibly programming. Some field work possible, including field checks for fixing data discrepancies and for collecting information for updating the GIS and other systems. Perform technical data cleanup projects.

 

**This position is hybrid 3 days a week in the Wilkes-Barre, PA office. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • GIS Work: Update the GIS to reflect completed field work. Handle incoming requests for data corrections. Fix errors based on graphical variance reports. Create right-of-way / easement drawings upon request. Create maps from system data upon request.
  • AutoCAD Drafting: Support Electric Operations by creating and maintaining CAD drawings, including property boundaries drawings, buildings and grounds safety-related drawings, and technical drawings including substation circuit diagrams, one-lines, and standards.
  • Data System Updates: Update data in various systems as required and complete an assortment of technical data cleanup projects. Digitize old documents.
  • Field Work: Spend time in the field collecting data for entry into associated systems. Tasks include collecting facility location and phasing data, GPS work, placing tags on poles, determining attachers, and various other data collections required to obtain accurate data for UGI’s systems. Deliver maps as needed to other offices.
  • Other: Perform other duties as assigned, which may include such items as tagging homes for scheduled maintenance outages, some administrative tasks including sorting physical files/folders, overseeing department technical equipment including large format plotter and GPS units. Assisting during storm restoration work is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good people skills; polite, considerate, appreciates input, friendly, level-headed, sensible, professional
  • Adept at computers and typing; ability to use Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Access
  • Adept in ESRI GIS systems and concepts; understands coordinate system conversion and georeferencing datasets
  • Adept in AutoCAD
  • Good problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in mathematical computation
  • Good driving skills and comfortable with field work
  • Familiarity with databases and database logic
  • Safety-minded

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s Degree or Certificate in GIS or AutoCAD. Related technical degree (such as an EET or MET) and GIS/AutoCAD experience will also be considered.
  • 2 years of experience in GIS and AutoCAD preferred
  • GIS certification is a plus
  • PA Driver’s License
