Position Summary:


This entry level position in our Waynesboro, PA office performs support to field operations on general construction and maintenance tasks. Employees are qualified by training and experience to do all utility and customer service and pipefitting and construction tasks with direct supervision including; meter reading, locating, excavation, flagging, emergency response, basic backhoe/trencher operation, and dump truck operator, gas main and service installation/repair and will be eligible for duty crew and on-call responsibilities when judged qualified.


Primary focus will be on safety and on the job training. Employees will enter a four-tiered progression and obtain Operator Qualification training on a limited number of Covered Tasks as outlined in the Operator Qualification Progression Plan (OQ Progression Plan) to progress to Journeyman level.


The successful candidate must live within the service territory of the job location and will be required to hold or obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) within the first six months of employment.


Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Reading residential and commercial meters and recording readings using handheld computers via walking and mobile routes.
  • Surveys and Flagging
  • Gas main/service installation and repair
  • Backhoe, trencher and dump truck operation
  • Locating lines
  • Inventory Control
  • Perform other duties as requested

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of Equipment operation and Pipeline Construction with experience in natural gas, construction, maintenance or related field preferred.
  • Mechanical ability and ability to do physical labor
  • Ability to pass a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) test and pre-employment drug test and general health physical and physical abilities test.
  • Possess a valid PA Driver’s license with safe driving history. Ability to follow all Company safety policies and procedures and protect Company assets.
  • General Computer knowledge.

Working Condition(s):
One can expect to work in various outdoor environments as well as in all sorts of weather and work conditions. Even with the growing use of “small hole” technologies, tooling which allows certain tasks to be performed aboveground, it is still necessary to enter trenches and/or work holes. Overtime may be necessary to meet customer needs and/or work obligations. Work includes the operation of hand and power tools and machinery. This position is subject to hazards such as moving vehicles, construction equipment and exposure to natural gas.
