Job Summary

Production Control Specialist II position that will maintain daily Datacenter tasks of monitoring computer systems and assisting Production Control Administrators in managing batch schedules and associated applications.  Position requires shift flexibility to fill in for 2nd and 3rd shift operators when needed and to be part of weekend coverage rotation.  This will occasionally require extended shifts and overtime. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor Datacenter activities using supplied software tools. This includes monitoring batch processing,  backups, network status, and other Infrastructure processes. Respond to automated alerts as appropriate, contacting administrators via email and phone, effectively communicating issues in a timely manner. Work with automated ticketing system to route and respond to service requests, change requests and problem identification.
  • Work with Production Control Administrators to craft and implement changes to batch and backup schedules. Work with System Administrators to test and implement Infrastructure software changes. Assist in implementing patching schedules and rebooting servers including those that require off hour reboots, as needed. Help with the physical deployment of Infrastructure equipment, such as servers and switches as needed.
  • Carry out daily Datacenter tasks such as sorting and delivering printouts and print generated mail notices. Work with application teams to implement changes to these services as needed. Communicate effectively with 2nd and 3rd shift operators by writing and understanding shift turnover materials, both written and verbal. As needed basis, working with subcontractors to clean the Datacenter, and to perform tests on safety equipment.
  • Assist in documenting operator procedures for key infrastructure components, including servers, monitors and ancillary equipment and processes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of computer and data processing concepts. Understanding the meaning of common IT ideas such as batch processing, backups, automated monitoring applications, networks, server farms and SAN storage devices. Knowledge of automated ticketing systems and the role they perform in IT Operations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft business tools such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to work effectively with a range of coworkers.
  • Ability to work independently on tasks as assigned, and to provide effective results on schedule.
  • Some familiarity with ITIL concepts.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma and some technical training in an IT related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
