Summary:

 

The Utility A – Start candidate should be qualified by training to do all pipefitting and construction tasks with direct supervision including; emergency response, basic backhoe/trencher operation, dump truck operation and main installation/repair.

 

Principle Accountabilities:

 

  • Must have a basic knowledge of our Manual Standard Practices and Gas Operations Manual, Company procedures, and Fuel Gas Code, etc.
  • Position requires general knowledge and ability to perform basic construction and utility tasks such as the use of air and hand tools, equipment; operation, pipefitting, shut-offs, and removes.
  • Must be in good physical condition with an ability to lift up to 100 pounds and be able to pass respirator/DOT physical.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

     

  • Must be available to participate in on call rotation and potentially be available 24/7 as required
  • Must be available to work overtime as needed
  • Must live within a commutable distance of the service territory of Reading, PA, in order to respond to service calls within 45 minutes.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a respirator certification
  • Obtain a CDL within 90 days of employment
  • Must pass a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCAT) Fit/Test
  • Must have the ability to carry/lift loads of up to 100 pounds, ascend/descend steps, ladders and trenches, perform elevated work above the head as well as perform work in various states of sitting, standing and squatting.
  • This is a safety sensitive position and incumbents will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing
  • Ability to analyze and react in critical situations
  • Tools and Equipment include but not limited to: power threaders, back hoes, hammer drills, jackhammers, reciprocating saws, rock drills, shovels, tampers, trenchers, and hand tools. 

     

    Education:

     

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid PA Driver’s License

     

    Working Conditions:

     

  • Candidate will be working under adverse working conditions (i.e. severe weather, extreme heat and cold noise, dust, dirt, fumes, confined spaces, long periods of standing and/or walking etc.)
