Job Summary
Lead the Plant Accounting function, including process and people development. Lead the team that tracks, controls and accounts for plant capital expenditures, depreciation, transfers and retirements for the purpose of providing management and regulatory agencies with reliable Utility Plant data. Work with stakeholders throughout the business to design processes that accurately and efficiently capture plant accounting transactions. Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for month-end close processes, including the review of journal entries, direction of the Power Plan sub-ledger close process, and completion of reporting for the month-end close process. Also responsible for review of balance sheet variance analysis associated with plant-related accounts.
- Plan and supervise the preparation and approval of various capital budget, depreciation, financial, statistical, and regulatory reports, used for management and regulatory agencies.
- Supervise, train and develop plant accounting team members.
- Direct the audit response for the Plant Accounting Dept. to meet the needs of various internal and external auditors. Monitor, support and perform or supervise necessary tasks to ensure compliance with SOX controls related to the plant accounting process. Work with SOX team and auditors to keep control language and process flows up to date.
- Supervise the accurate and timely processing of capital work orders, including assisting project managers with the determination of capital vs. expense classification.
- Serve as the subject matter expert working with system design team to continuously improve the plant accounting process and system functions.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to develop processes to efficiently and accurately record the completion of projects within plant records.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to lead and direct a team of varying skill levels.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to work with individuals at various levels and with various backgrounds throughout the organization.
- Problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to evaluate and redesign processes.
- Knowledgeable in or willingness to learn new systems and assist with planning, evaluation and implementing system enhancements.
- Team orientation, focusing on the big picture, but willing to drill down into details as necessary.
- Familiarity with Sarbanes Oxley 404 requirements and ability to manage key controls over financial reporting
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
- 4-10 years of experience, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- CPA preferred.
- Public accounting experience preferred
