Job Summary

The Senior Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) is a key advisor to UGI Utilities Senior Management Team and is directly responsible for the following key functions with the Finance Department:

  • Annual budgeting process and monthly financial analysis and forecasting
  • Leveraging technology and new IT systems to automate/improve reporting and analysis, in order to drive better strategic decision making across the entire Utility
  • Supervision and development of the FP&A team
  • Regulatory Support
  • Key business partner to the Sr. Director of FP&A and the CFO.  Responsible for providing senior management critical financial information that assists in the strategic decision-making process and risk mitigation.

 

This position reports directly to the Sr. Director of FP&A and is a key member of the leadership team of the Finance/Accounting function.  The Senior Manager FP&A plays a critical role in the overall success of the company and is at the intersection of operations, IT and finance.  The Sr. Manager – Financial Planning & Analysis must possess the ability to drive continuous improvement.  The ability to work well with various support and operations groups and manage projects requiring cross functional collaboration is critical to success in this position.  The ability to anticipate financial operations issues and to formulate recommendations to Senior Management regarding complex operational issues is vital.

The Sr. Manager FP&A is expected to manage a team of finance professionals and is responsible for creating their developmental goals and objectives.  Oversees the development and distribution of monthly/quarterly financial reporting packages.  Explains the "story" as well as the risks and opportunities related to the business to corporate stakeholders including Investor Relations.  Oversees the quarterly forecast submittals to corporate which feed corporate EPS estimates.  Provides cash flow projections, liquidity and debt-capitalization ratio forecasts to corporate Treasury department and assist with new debt issuances.  Works with various departments to provide financial impact analysis of business strategies (i.e. large projects, M&A targets, etc.) and prepares/designs ancillary financial models to support special projects when necessary.  Acts as Subject Matter Expert as needed for strategic projects and new initiatives.  Prepares and reviews complex financial models to support rate cases and special projects.  Provides CFO with executive presentation material and other financial data requests.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead and manage staff.  Drive departmental efficiency through continuous process improvement.  Responsible for the development and on-going monitoring of the budget, forecast, and long-term financial plan, including review providing analysis of monthly results, forecasts and preparing reporting packages for senior management.
  • Drives and improves strategic decision making across the company by leveraging technology and new IT systems to automate/improve reporting and analysis.
  • Develops and reviews complex financial models and Support M&A activities.  Provides analyses for other financial transaction, including rate case modeling and preparation, evaluation of the profitability of growth capital, overall efficiency of capital deployment, peer group analysis and benchmarking.
  • Collaborates with other departments to quantify the financial impacts of business strategies.  Performs ad hoc reporting and analysis as required by senior leadership.
  • Oversee cash flow, liquidity, and debt-capitalization analysis forecasts.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

  • Ability to lead in a highly productive, flexible, collaborative manner; capable of readily adapting to challenges.
  • Ability to provide and execute on vision and strategy both with and without direction in support, or definition, of company goals and objectives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, both verbally and in writing; demonstrated skill in proactively building strong relationships with all levels of partners/leaders/customers both internally and externally.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Ability to leverage technology to improve reporting, analysis and decision making.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of financial experience, preferably in a utility or energy-related business.
  • CPA or CMA Preferred.
