The Sr. Director, Electric will lead and oversee the P&L for the Electric Division of UGI Utilities. This role will manage and direct replacement and betterment activities associated with UGI Electric's LTIIP (Long Term Infrastructure Improvement Plan) with responsibilities that also include safety, reliability, budget, operations, engineering, and construction. Establish and manage UGI Electric metrics and goals and ensure execution of activities that support and meet commercial and industrial customer requirements. Manage and direct activities to ensure compliance with PUC (Public Utility Commission) electric safety initiatives, FERC reliability standards, PJM (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland Interconnection) requirements and the PUC (Public Utility Commission).

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement business unit strategies that support safety, reliability, regulatory compliance and customer satisfaction; establish key performance indicators to measure implementation effectiveness; lead and oversee the P&L for the Electric Division of UGI Utilities, including budget development and management; oversee the Division's major projects and budgets, financial forecasts, variance reporting, as well as strategic capital planning in support of the LTIIP and other capital goals; serve as primary representative on the PJM Transmission  Owner Administrative Committee, Members Committee and Section 205 Working Group; attend and participate on various industry forums.
  • Develop technical strategies to address emerging technologies including    micro-grids, distributed energy
  • resources and electric vehicle charging.  
  • Manage and direct replacement and betterment activities associated with UGI Electric's LTIIP (Long Term Infrastructure Improvement Plan); manage Electric Division reliability standards and performance; oversee the Division's storm restoration and emergency preparedness activities including mutual assistance planning and utilization.  
  • Lead Electric Division safety initiatives; foster a positive safety culture while holding managers and employees accountable for following and consistently enforcing all safety related procedures; act as the primary liaison with the PUC Electric Safety Division.
  • Ensure effective employee engagement, and efficient use of resources to ensure Division activities are cost effective and meet the needs of our customers and employees. 
  • Perform other duties and/or projects as needed.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Leadership experience in a small to mid-sized electric utility that includes operations experience in transmission, sub-transmission, distribution and network systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; experienced as a functional leader and change agent, accountable for organizational progress and results; demonstrated ability to positively motivate individuals and teams to meet or exceed project expectations.
  • Productive, flexible, collaborative and proactive leader who welcomes challenges
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of P&Ls, revenue growth drivers and financial performance.
  • P/L responsibility ~$150M revenue, ~$30M expense $12M income, ~$30M capital.
  • Experience in managing complex, multi-location initiatives.
  • Expert ability to build strong relationships and develop trust across the organization with experience influencing cultural shifts to Lean with successful acceptance; negotiates skillfully, anticipating reactions and planning strategically to overcome objections.
  • Analyze information to make sound business decisions taking prudent business risks as appropriate; strong decision-making skills and abilities driven by ability to perform data analytics and demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills; synthesize information from many sources to arrive at a deep understanding of complex issues.
  • Ability to lead complex projects and/or initiatives; manage time and resources effectively through strong organization, multi-tasking, delegation and time management skills.
  • Effective at operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Communicate effectively and persuasively, both verbally and in writing; demonstrated skill in proactively building string relationships with top tier partners/leaders/customers both internally and externally.

 

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, electrical engineering technology, or a closely related technical field; Bachelor's in Business Administration considered; Master's degree in business or engineering preferred.
  • 15 years’ experience in electric utility operations (to include transmission, sub-transmission, distribution and network systems).
  • PE – Electrical Engineering desirable.
