Sr Accountant - General Ledger

Summary:

This individual will initially serve as a project resource for the General Ledger team on the Company’s SAP implementation project, UNITE. Around the SAP go-live time frame, this individual will transition to the full-time Senior Accountant role, where he or she will be responsible for performing particular month end closing tasks surrounding the general ledger area as well as coordinating the quarterly SEC reporting at UGI Utilities while leveraging the knowledge gained as part of the SAP implementation team. These closing responsibilities include but are not limited to payroll, burdens, benefits, allocations, consolidation, and internal reporting.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations related to compensation, benefits, intercompany transactions, equity and other areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties such as recording of biweekly payroll and related deductions, perform allocations (including payroll and other burdens, capital allocations, fleet allocations, etc.), and maintain standard labor and burden rates.
  • Agree 10-Q and 10-K draft items related to General Ledger accounts and disclosures to support. Coordinate changes from other groups within accounting and take ownership of drafted documents and submit to UGI Corporate.
  • Perform monthly consolidation process in HFM and prepare monthly internal financial statements.
  • Ad hoc projects such as rate case and auditor requests, process improvement and efficiency initiatives, etc.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of GAAP including technical accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley 404 requirements and ability to perform key controls over financial reporting.
  • Experience with SEC financial reporting and consolidation systems is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to self-review own work products and work independently but also ability to collaborate with multiple persons throughout the company to accomplish objectives. Requirement to work across disciplines such as payroll, accounts payable, fixed assets and tax.
  • Ability to identify solutions to nonstandard requests and to solve complex problems; good judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Ability to lead projects and assume accountability for on-going activities or objectives.
  • Ability to present and explain complicated or sensitive information to various audiences.
  • Proven track record with improving processes, challenging the status quo, and providing alternative perspectives to challenges.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Accounting Required
  • At least 5 years of experience
  • CPA is preferred
  • Desirable – Public Accounting Experience (Big 4 preferred)
