Job Summary

The Manager General & Technical Accounting holds a key leadership role within UGI Utilities.  He/she will have direct responsibility for the accounting operations including the timely and accurate completion of the monthly close process, financial reporting, including SEC reporting and the related SOX processes.  The Manager General & Technical Accounting will with have direct oversight of the general accounting function and indirect oversight over all accounting functions at UGI Utilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the monthly close process including all Internal and SEC reporting: 
    • Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and completeness in reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and SOX controls.
    • Help to facilitate annual audit process while developing a strong working relationship with the external auditor.
    • Drive improvements to both the efficiency and effectiveness of the end to end close the books process.
    • Ownership of the cost accounting function including accounting for overhead allocations and burdens for both external costs and labor costs.
  • Own the allocation methodology, recording and reporting of budgeted and actual amounts, for internal allocations and affiliate transactions, including to and from UGI Corporation.
  • Reviewing and assessing accounting treatment including drafting/reviewing technical memos for items such as goodwill, SAB 99, pension, and commitments and contingencies.
  • Ownership of SOX related internal controls environment related to general accounting and SEC reporting functions.
  • Support the accounting function through participation in and leadership of various company-wide projects.
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of staff development Including recruitment, hiring, training, managing, and coaching.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Supervisory work experience in corporate or public accounting, Big Four experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in proactively leading, managing, motivating, and coaching a team of accounting professionals
  • Expertise in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) & Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance. SEC Reporting expertise is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work across disciplines such as payroll, benefits, rates, treasury, and other functional units. Ability to communicate with multiple persons throughout the Company to accomplish objectives
  • Strong analytical skills as well as written and oral communication skills.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or associated discipline required; MBA preferred. 
  • Minimum of 7 years of accounting work experience.
  • CPA Required.
  • Public Accounting Experience desired (Big 4 preferred).
