Job Summary

Reporting to the Sr Manager of Infrastructure, this position will coordinate and work with the Systems Infrastructure, Networking, and Business teams in supporting, deploying, and maintaining the infrastructure.

This role is responsible for managing and leading the infrastructure and data center management team within UGI.  This person will be responsible for partnering with the architecture team and leading the direction of the engineering and operations of these technologies.  The ideal candidate is a people leader that inspires, coaches and is results oriented.

This position manages technical infrastructure projects to meet department objectives, tracks hardware resources and recommends future expenditures to meet anticipated business needs.  Develops, implements, and maintains standards and procedures for UGI IT infrastructure.  Provides direction and support for other IT departments to complete their objectives.  Interacts with software and hardware vendors to evaluate potential software and hardware products and solve technical problems.

Duties and Responsibilities

Production:

  • Oversees all facets of infrastructure relating to architecture, engineering, storage, security, development, and maintenance.
  • Establishes overarching protocol for the design, installation, configuration, and optimization of the systems environment. 
  • Performs regular analysis to evaluate server and product effectiveness, and implements corrective action as needed. 
  • Liaisons with other functional leaders to ensure business requirements are being met through systems services. 
  • Oversees the creation of policies for implementing, integrating, and maintaining Microsoft AD, exchange, VMWARE, SAN, CITRIX, and other related products.  Ensures an effective utilization of systems operations. 
  • Forecasts and completes capacity planning to avoid service downtime and provide stability and reliability. 
  • Communicates regularly with vendors, to assess changes or adaptations to network hardware or software. 
  • Administers departmental policies and procedures, evaluates results and performance, and assists with the development of new or modified budgets, strategic plans, or policies. 
  • Ensure Infrastructure meets or exceeds Service Level Agreements. 
  • Setup and maintain disaster recovery procedures.  Supervise disaster recovery tests of major business systems.  Validate and maintain backup and recovery procedures and infrastructure monitoring tools.
  • Effectively interface with networking team to maximize IT infrastructure availability and Security team to ensure a compliant Cybersecurity posture.
  • Support IT personnel with IT infrastructure-related problems.

 

Strategic Business Interactions:

  • Mentor and train I/S staff in procedures, standards, and system facilities.
  • Interact with other I/S departments to support IT infrastructure requirements.
  • Work with software vendors to evaluate potential products and resolve technical problems.
  • Keep apprised of technology advancements through education classes, seminars, self-study, industry, and business contacts.
  • Make recommendations on the use of emerging technologies.
  • Closely work with Network and Cybersecurity teams to ensure maximum performance and security of UGI Business systems.

 

Planning:

  • Define, prioritize, schedule, and monitor multiple technical projects, developing and maintaining comprehensive project plans.  Review future projects and ensure the necessary resources are available to satisfy projected resource requirements.
  • Assist in planning annual IT infrastructure objectives and budget.
  • Plan and estimate effort project resource requirements.
  • Plan migration paths for system software.
  • Assist other I/S departments in planning projects where technical expertise is required.
  • Perform capacity planning for IT infrastructure components.
  • Advising management in major architectural decisions and direction. 
  • Advise management on toolsets needed to meet performance and availability goals. 
  • Work with Governance and Cybersecurity groups to ensure that IT infrastructure meets industry-recognized best practices.  

 

Administration:

  • Track and review project progress against plans. 
  • Manage team of systems engineers
  • Prepare and present status reports.
  • Implement policies and procedures.
  • Design and maintain IT infrastructure standards and procedures.  Ensure that documentation is current and accurate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in managing infrastructure environments.  
  • Technology experience with Windows/Linux/Unix servers, SAN, server hardware, Nutanix, and other systems and data center related technologies.
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiar with regulatory and compliance items governing IT.
  • Strong familiarity with Business processes and functions.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent job experience, plus a minimum of 10 years of experience in IT with experience leading a team or project.
