Job Summary

Coordinating with various internal departments and external suppliers regarding materials and tools; assist with the selection, approval, use, and life span of materials and tools in the UGI distribution system.  Provide supporting technical advice on replacement, use or alternate solutions regarding construction material concerns.  Evaluate, track and log material failures for submission to Federal, State and Industry organizations.

 

**This position is hybrid in Denver, PA, not remote.**

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the standardization of materials and equipment, including review and comparison of specifications, performance/functionality testing, and implementation.  Actively participate in the inter-company materials committee and inter-company tool committee for review of current topics, materials, and tools.   
  • Review, audit, and record material failure reports submitted by installation crews and submit to the appropriate external agency as required by governing bodies (PHMSA, AGA PPDC and PA PUC). Evaluate returned failures for quality defects or possible recurrence, which may include internal or laboratory analysis.  Make replacement or procedural change recommendations based on results of failure analysis.
  • Assist the Purchasing Dept. in the bid process through the creation of material specifications and monitor/assure supplier quality through commodity evaluation and occasional site visits.  Provide alternate supplier options through specification evaluation and performance testing.
  • Provide supporting diagrams, schematics, lists, and procedures for Gas Operations Manual, Engineering Design Manual, and Construction Standards.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as requested.  This includes internal and external training sessions, company sponsored safety and vendor events, applicable committees/conferences, traveling to supplier or manufacturer sponsored locations, committee gatherings, and construction field visits. 
  • Maintain and monitor the materials specification catalog, virtual valve catalog, and PUC Notification of Major Expenditure site.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with national and international engineering standards organizations (ISO, ASME, ANSI, ASTM, DIN).
  • Proficiency with basic and powered hand tools, as well as knowledge of plastic and steel piping assemblies/distribution systems.
  • Superior computer skills (Windows) with MS professional programs and 2D drafting software such as AutoCad is required.  Knowledge of MS SharePoint and SAP is desired. 
  • Superior knowledge of the electrofusion process and competent failure analysis of the electrofusion process required.
  •  Ability to perform/document failure analysis testing with individuals from various backgrounds present. 
  • Strong interpersonal relationship acumen.  Ability to communicate effectively and accurately to individuals from various backgrounds, in person and electronically.   

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Engineering field.
  • 1-3 years’ experience.
  • EIT (State license) strongly encouraged.
