Job Summary

The Assistant Controller holds a key leadership role within UGI Utilities.  He/she will have direct responsibility for the accounting operations including the timely and accurate completion of the monthly close process, financial reporting, including SEC reporting and the related SOX processes.  The Assistant Controller with have direct oversight of the general accounting, revenue accounting and supply accounting functions and indirect oversite over key regulatory financial statement filings and processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the monthly close process including all Internal and SEC reporting:
    • Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and completeness in reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and SOX controls.
    • Help to facilitate annual audit process while developing a strong working relationship with the external auditor.
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of accounting staff development Including recruitment, hiring, training, managing, and coaching:
    • Foster a professional accounting environment that promotes employee development, engagement, and teamwork.
  • Provide vision, strategy and lead continuous improvement of accounting and reporting systems, controls, and processes.
  • Support the accounting function through participation in and leadership of various company-wide projects including, rate case development, evaluation of opportunities to increase revenues or reduce expenditures and other projects that arise.    

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possess a minimum of ten years accounting experience including progressive accounting management.
  • Previous utility experience preferred with an understanding of regulated rate making & accounting.
  • Must have bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline and CPA designation.
  • Expertise in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) & Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance.  SEC reporting expertise is strongly preferred.
  • Must be effective in interacting and building relationships at the senior executive level.
  • Demonstrated experience in proactively leading, managing, motivating, and coaching a team of accounting professionals.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting Required; MBA Preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related accounting experience.
  • CPA Required.
  • Public Accounting experience Desired; Big 4 Preferred.
