Position Summary:
Lead the installation, customization, and maintenance of system software. Evaluate system software and make recommendations based on technical merit and fit within infrastructure. Tune system software for maximum performance in order to meet established Service Level Agreements. Develop, implement, and maintain standards and procedures for Infrastructure Services Department. Interact with software vendors to evaluate potential software products and solve technical problems. Provide technical mentoring to other members of the department.


Principal Accountabilities:


  • Install, customize, and maintain system software (Windows and Linux) and designated application software.
  • Be conversant with virtualization concepts in general and VMware as a platform.
  • Tune system software to meet or exceed Service Level Agreements and trouble-shoot and fix system performance problems.
  • Modify system resources to accommodate business applications.
  • Set up and maintain backup and recovery procedures.
  • Support Help Desk personnel with Level 2 diagnosis and resolution.
  • Support IT personnel with IT infrastructure-related problems.
  • Provide technical and project leadership for purchased applications.



  • Develop and maintain I/S standards and procedures.
  • Work successfully with internal business partners on projects.
  • Work with software vendors to resolve technical and purchased application problems.
  • Keep apprised of technology advancements through education classes, seminars, self-study, and industry and business contacts.
  • Make recommendations on the use of emerging technologies



  • Plan and estimate project resource requirements
  • Perform capacity planning for the server environment
  • Plan the migration of system and purchased application software
  • Evaluate and make recommendations for system software and purchased applications



  • Track and review project progress against plans
  • Prepare and present status reports
  • Implement policies and procedures


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic familiarity with Business processes and functions
  • Working knowledge of COBIT5 IT Governance & Management framework or other structured industry standard methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Familiar with regulatory and compliance items governing IT
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite


Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Information/Computer Science
Length of Experience:  Five years’ experience as a senior System Administrator with both hardware and software selection/acquisition/installation and support responsibilities.
