Summary:

The Business Development Engineering Technician II will complete assigned engineering work in support of business development project design and estimation.  Key deliverables of the position will include facility layout design, construction drawings, permit sketches with information for permit applications, cost estimates and work authorization packages for new business facility construction projects.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Develop construction, permitting and easement drawings and work authorization packages for business development projects.  Conduct research as necessary to complete drawings using internal records such as as-built sketches and external records such as design one-calls and property records.
  • Design and estimate costs for business development projects utilizing Design Manager, DOJM and/or Ingres combined with the Annual Pipeline Contract to cost-effectively specify design parameters and select contractors. 
  • Support project construction process by answering questions from the field regarding designs or responding to review field construction changes.
  • Prepare business development project job completion packages for Central Maps & Records and Accounting Departments (including financial close-out in relevant systems, completed job orders, and checklists) in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • General knowledge of, or aptitude in learning, the properties of natural gas as they relate to pressure and flow, and of the principles which apply to gas facility construction and maintenance.
  • Aptitude in learning codes and standards such as all applicable Federal (DOT), state (PA PUC, PennDOT, MD PSC), local codes and Company policy and procedures, such as those found in the Gas Operations Manual (GOM) and Gas Design Manual.
  • Excellent computer skills especially mapping and technical programs and software (i.e. AutoCAD).
  • Aptitude in learning UGI-specific computer systems such as Design Manager, DOJM, Oracle, MapFrame, Ingres, Avenir, 4CAP, MLTS and ArcGIS among others.
  • Familiarity with office workflow procedures and have an understanding of available resources such as maps and records, maintenance reports, timesheets and contractor bills.

 

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or related field and/or a working knowledge and experience with CAD in gas pipeline installation and maintenance.
  • One to two years’ work experience in a construction or engineering position preferred.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Regular office conditions are the typical working environment for this position, though construction support responsibilities may expose the position to heavy construction machinery, gaseous environments, noise, temperature extremes, vibrations, dust and etc., that would require safety equipment, clothing, and procedures as outlined in the UGI Safety & Health Manual.
