Job Summary

Installs, maintains and evaluates network systems and communications. Troubleshoots the complex network issues involving various factors. Conducts network architecture design, feasibility and cost studies. Must have extensive knowledge of Internet, computer, routers, switches, firewall, etc. Typically requires a bachelor’s degree of computer science, or engineering or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.  Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Requires 4 to 7 years of related experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

PRODUCTION
Execute the planning, design, and implementation of all LAN and WAN IT architecture components and related services. Assess and optimize network design through review and assessment of client requirements. Assume overall responsibility of the LAN-to LAN, WAN -to WAN, and WAN-to LAN communication environments. Ensure control, reliability, and performance of all telecommunication systems. Monitor telecommunications system performance and coordinate troubleshooting of related performance issues. Support IT personnel with IT infrastructure-related problems. Manage overall planning, design, installation, maintenance, management, and coordination of UGI local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) interfaces with telecommunications service providers. Ensure service levels consistent with current and future business requirements (as specified by client service level agreements) are maintained. Participate in the cost comparisons, and recommendations for specific telecommunications technology products and platforms. Document policies, procedures and standards for the telecommunication services.

STRATEGIC BUSINESS INTERACTIONS                                                                            Mentor and train, I/S staff on the availability and use of communications related technology. Research and recommend new Network Visibility Tools. Maintain rapport with the applications, development, operations and production control, contractors and system support staff. Interact with peers from non-utility companies under the UGI umbrella to share knowledge and discover if any synergies exist. Attend telecommunications seminars and conferences.

PLANNING                                                                                                                            Define, prioritize, schedule and monitor multiple technical projects, developing and maintaining comprehensive project plans. Review future projects and insure the necessary resources are available to satisfy communications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic familiarity with Business processes and functions.
  • Working knowledge of COBIT5 IT Governance & Management framework or other structured industry standard methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiar with regulatory and compliance items governing IT.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in information/Computer Science, or equivalent relevant experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a senior Network Administrator with both hardware and software selection/acquisition/installation and support responsibilities.
  • Certifications: ITIL Foundation certification (at hire or within 12 months in position).

    Preferred: Certifications in COBIT framework.

    Cisco certification or equal.
