OVERVIEW:  The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for source selection and procurement functions associated with the Company’s needs for materials, equipment and services. Ensures products and services are secured at cost quality and delivery competitive levels.  Track cost and delivery performances to budgets and schedules.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Negotiate with external vendors to secure the most advantageous pricing and terms.
  • Solicit bids for necessary goods and services.
  • Prepare bid evaluations on both price and terms and make award recommendations.
  • Prepare and route purchase orders and invoices for approvals and processing.
  • Finalize details of orders and deliveries; coordinate expediting as needed.
  • Follow up on deliveries of all orders to insure timely deliveries.
  • Coordinate and communicate procurement planning with the Project Management group to meet schedules.
  • Track project costs and forecasts with respect to budgets.
  • Prepare reports and communicate procurement and budget performance to the Project Management group.
  • Control spend and build a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to analyze, process operations data and present results.
  • Knowledge of material work planning and methods, engineering processes and procedures.
  • Ability to read manuals, drawings, schematics, blue prints and research technical matters to stay current with applicable technical and industry changes, is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment.
  • Possess strong analytical skills.
  • Possess industry and commodity experience.
  • Remain calm, functioning and analytical under pressure.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Five (5)+ years of business experience (e.g. - vendor sourcing, contracts management) demonstrating. progressive responsibility and growth.
