Instrumentation & Controls Specialist

Overview: Assist with all aspects of developing and maintaining the instrumentation and controls (I&C) at the UGI Energy Services, LLC (UGIES) facilities, including LPG plants, compressor stations, M&R stations, etc.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete required periodic transmitter calibrations at all facilities, including pressure, temperature, gas detection, fire detection, etc.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and documentation associated with periodic transmitter calibrations
  • Troubleshoot PLC and HMI issues, including communications, databases, PLC configuration, etc.
  • Develop or modify HMI displays and trend displays as needed
  • Assist with basic programming maintenance, including debugging, modification of existing loads, build and download to PLC, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining plant network equipment and domain structure
  • Troubleshoot and maintain plant HMI computer hardware and software
  • Provide I&C technical assistance to other UGIES Operators and Technicians

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of instrumentation and controls, including transmitters, PLCs, HMIs, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with design of control systems & Instrumentation equipment
  • Experience with PLC/SCADA software such as Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley Studio5000, and FactoryTalk or Wonderware InTouch or System Platform.
  • Basic knowledge of local and wide area network environments; network routing and switching understanding; all layers of the OSI reference model and protocols
  • Basic knowledge of Windows Server administration and virtualization platforms/technologies/tools (VMWare, Hyper-V).
  • Experience with communication protocols, such as OPC, and network systems associated with a SCADA infrastructure
  • Familiar with Computer Programming VB.Net
  • Working knowledge of database architectures, queries, and maintenance with such database technologies as MS-SQL.
  • Must be well versed in various computer skills and common programs, the use of the MS-Office Suite, and have a working knowledge of Visio and other similar design software
  • Installation and commissioning experience
  • Develop technical documentation for company's policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Must have good inter-personnel communication and report writing skills
  • Participates in a high level of productivity, initiative, and teamwork
  • Must have a positive approach to problem finding and problem-solving
  • Experience working with regulated commodities, specifically propane and natural gas
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills
  • Professional, reliable, self-directing work habits
  • Ability to travel to all UGIES facilities

 

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Five (5) years of industry related experience
  • Valid driver’s license
