Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Manager of Safety & Training, provide site safety leadership, ensure facility compliance with corporate safety standards, implement safety directives, improve safety performance, and ensure facility safety policies and procedures are aligned with governmental regulations.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Conduct monthly safety meetings at company operational sites.
  • Maintain the company’s emergency response plans and coordinate emergency response tabletop and drill exercises with local first responders.
  • Attend public outreach events with local first responders and excavation contractors to promote safe digging practices and to facilitate productive communications between the company and these groups.
  • Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices. 
  • Facilitate a work environment that supports a safe and healthy culture.
  • Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Write and maintain safety policies, procedures, and plans. 
  • Give training on these policies, procedures, and plans to field personnel.
  • Investigate industrial accidents, near-miss incidents, and occupational injuries to determine causes, install preventive measures, and manage return-to-work activities.
  • Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes. 
  • Order and maintain facility safety inventory including supplies and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to build trust and confidence with management and supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels both verbally and in written form.
  • Experience writing and maintaining safety policies, procedures, and plans.
  • Experience in giving safety training.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable regulations (OSHA, ANSI, NFPA).
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.


Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and/or 3+ years of direct field safety experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of 29 CFR § 1926 and/or 29 CFR § 1910, preferably both.
  • Any certification through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (preferred).
  • Safety experience in any of the following: energy, natural gas, oil & gas, power, or nuclear (preferred).
