Overview: The Operations Shift Supervisor is an assistant to the Operations Manager.  This person will coordinate the operations crews, responsible for the training and qualification process of the A and B Operators. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Incorporates safe behavior into all activities and complies with all established safety and health policies and procedures.

  • Schedule operations personnel.

  • Help to develop and modifies operational procedures.

  • Performs training on power plant systems and safety procedures.

  • Monitors and reports qualification progress.

  • Assist in plant operations and directs personnel in plant tuning to improve the overall thermodynamic performance of the facility.

  • Assign work tasks to the operations crew.

  • Assists in developing PM procedures.

  • Works overtime as needed to support plant operation supervision.

  • Prepares other records and reports as required.

  • Supports a Team working environment.

  • Performs other tasks as directed by the Operations Manager and other supervisory personnel as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Negotiating, supervisory and leadership skills combined with the ability to delegate.
  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, be proficient with the use of power and precision tools and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of distributed control systems (ABB and Woodward knowledge and experience preferred), computer based systems, electronic control systems, and the ability to use and modify computer systems.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blue prints. 
  • Must be able to attain a PJM Generation Certification within the required period.
  • Must work within and insure strict adherence to all safety procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • The ability to work for extended periods in hot/cold environments.
  • This job requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells. Must demonstrate the ability to observe, hear, walk and communicate effectively.


Education and Experience Required:

  • High school graduate or equivalent with trade school, military service or other technical training. Additional professional training preferred.
  • 5+ years of maintenance experience in power generating facilities or process plants with experience working as a Shift Supervisor or equivalent.
  • Combined Cycle power plant experience is preferred.
