The Category Director - Corporate Services is responsible for establishing an indirect strategic sourcing and category management team to drive improved indirect spend management across the enterprise for spend categories including, but not limited to, Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, Marketing, and Travel.  This role will be responsible for building a team and tracking their ongoing performance, while seeking continual improvement in efficiency, effectiveness and cost reduction.  A key responsibility for the successful candidate is to scale the operations and sourcing of their respective categories across the UGI enterprise in conjunction with broader UGI Business Units and Corporate Functions. The Corporate Services Procurement team has responsibility for executing strategic sourcing and category management activities to obtain products and services while leveraging preferred suppliers and contract pricing for their respected corporate services categories.  This includes managing and supporting the source-to-contract and procure-to-pay processes initiated by the users to ensure compliance with Global Supply Chain policies and processes, while at the same providing an exceptional customer experience for internal stakeholders. Additional key activities of this team include creation of, and driving of key category strategies which align with the prospective business unit’s mission and vision, compliance to contract pricing and terms, competitive bidding, and contracting.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the execution of the third-party spend categories supporting Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, Marketing, and Travel.   Act as the central point of contact between Procurement and the Business Unit stakeholders which includes: communication of standard processes, implementation of best practices, and providing training where needed.  Responsibilities also include: driving change management efforts, developing a strong engagement model with business leaders, and development of key metrics, and issue resolution.
  • Continually evaluate the current organization and model to ensure we have the right people in the right roles with the right skills who can effectively engage with our key stakeholders in a strategic manner to become a trusted business partner. Provide leadership, coaching and ongoing feedback to the team. Ensure ongoing communication from the Procurement team is shared, explained and implemented in the perspective Business Units
  • Responsible for all elements of the Strategic Sourcing process for designated spend categories, including: strategic understanding of the supply marketplace, pricing and term negotiations, preparation and analysis of regional bid proposals/packages, supplier selection, negotiation, and communication with stakeholders
  • Provide strategic consulting and an analytic perspective to Business Units and key business stakeholders on sourcing strategies and risks
  • Proactively participate in enterprise cross-functional sourcing with Business Units including: AmeriGas, UGI Utilities, UGI Energy Services, UGI Corporate, and UGI HVAC.
  • Work with Business Units in the development of comprehensive category and category sourcing strategies by identifying opportunities for process improvement and cost savings that contribute to achieving outstanding results
  • Drive strategic cost optimization efforts through process improvements, contractual efficiencies and elimination of wasteful spending; achieve annual cost savings goals
  • Motivate and drive procurement effectiveness across the organization (with or without direct supervisory authority) by analyzing the spend portfolio and determining the overall sourcing approach for assigned categories based on magnitude of budget, strategic importance, and opportunity for value delivery

 

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:  This position reports directly to, and supports the CPO and VP of Global Procurement of UGI Corporation. In addition, this position supports Corporate Services and Senior Business Unit Leaders in establishing the Company’s and the Sourcing and Procurement Department’s strategic vision, objectives, goals, and metrics. He/she will work closely with UGI leadership, and will participate in key networks, to build strong relationships with business unit leaders and their respective staffs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience leading the development and implementation of strategic procurement plans including purchasing, supply chain management, sourcing, and supplier selection (consulting and corporate experience is preferred)
  • Strong Leadership qualities, excellent work ethic, strong interpersonal skills, solid presentation skills, advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Sharp analytical skills and the ability to quickly obtain relevant information
  • Demonstrated high emotional intelligence; balanced approach in working through issues
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully influence senior management and critical stakeholders and to communicate the group’s vision and accomplishments
  • The ability to make informed decisions with incomplete data sets; demonstrates a bias for action and strong sense of urgency

  • Experience in managing teams up to 5 FTEs
  • Proficient in the use of ERP packages (e.g. SAP preferred), eProcurement packages (e.g. Ariba preferred) other purchasing software
  • Experience in the design and development & implementation of policies and procedures to drive desired change
  • Must have the highest ethical standards, strong leadership skills, excellent judgment, personal initiative, problem solving abilities, and exceptional communications skills
  • Must have the ability to represent the Company in diverse forums, and the ability to build diverse teams
